Is there an ETI? Sure there is (otherwise it would be just a waste of space for such a big Universe to stay empty) but who knows when it would be contacted. Perhaps some of the next generations will get in touch with some ETs, so let's spend the unused power of our computers to help them in advance by finding best candidates.
