Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes I think that extraterrestrial life exists, unless we are the closed experiment on a virtual world only on a much more advance computer than ours.

Humans might have problems in discovering such extraterrestrial life as there are the following possibilities in relationto technlogically advanced life forms:

1: We are the top of the range so we will not receive any messages for a long time.

2: We are about in the middle so according to biological profiles on this planet if extraterrestrial life is similar to our life expectancy (~ 100-200 years) then we would not get any messages for equally long time as the nearest stars average distance is about 100-300 light years (I dont know exactly)?? and they just about started sending.

3: We are at the lower level so
-Either Civilizations tend to ignore for some time
messages until they study them (politicians/military..)
-Either Civilisations tend to completely hide (or for
much longer time - See Star Trek Primary protocol.)
-Civilisations tend to answer in short time)

Assuming equal probabilities:
0.3 we are in the upper technological layer
&0.3 they answer immediately
Total=0.09 they will answer (i.e. 9%)

So the chances are that we should be patient !!
