Personal background
As a kid I was obsessed with science fiction paperbacks, astronomy and the space program. Nowadays I'm obsessed with the Internet. When contact with another intelligence is finally made, people will be scrambling for the ideas in those old science fiction paperbacks, as every possible outcome has already been explored there. That's when I will begin selling my vast collection on eBay and retire a rich man.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I doubt if we will ever make actual physical contact with aliens, but I'm sure we will be able to eavesdrop on them. That in itself will probably shake our societies to the core. But that's a good thing.
