Profile: Cor de Boer

Personal background
I was born in the Netherlands but now living in France. I started my career as an electronics technician and developed to be an IT consultant. I have a great interest in cosmology/theoretical physics and model railways...
My partner is a classical composer/pianist (www.sonjabeets.eu) and I consider it as one of the important tasks in my life to help her music find its way into society.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Actually, I do not believe we will find any signs of extra-terrestrial life in this way. Why not? Well, remember Maxwell et al 'invented' electricity some 180 years ago; before that no one could imagine anything like such a phenomenon could exist. Now we think that we know all there is to know about communication, but when thinking about interstellar distances there might well exist phenomena yet unknown to us. So I think we (scientists et al) should be open-minded to 'the unknown'.
Nevertheless, stubbornness may leed to unexpected results...
