Personal background
Howdy from the Four-Corners! I'm Erik, and I got into SETI from a computer tweaking forum called TweakTown. I'm pretty new to computers, but I'm having a blast with it! There are so many fascinating things one can do, from searching for aliens...to blasting them to virtual bits!
I'm a finish carpenter by trade, and I love to tinker and relax in the evenings playing games, chatting, learning new things and meeting new people. My 3 kids are amazed and fascinated with SETI and they didn't believe me when I first told them what it was. I think that the coolest thing about computers is....If you ever cease being amazed....just wait a couple months.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm cynical by nature, and I don't really expect to find signs of alien life through SETI any more than I expect to win the Lotto when I buy a ticket. It's a good diversion, and a challenge to meet with as it is taxing on a computer, but that's a GOOD thing. I am using SETI as a benchmark and test to optimize my computer and cooling system, and I will continue to try and best my fellow computer enthusiasts by cranking out the units, faster and faster all the time...I'll also keep buying Lotto tickets, because....ya just never know ;)
