Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does ET life exist? What a question. Of course I do believe ET life exists. To believe differently displays a lack of vision and an almost arrested view of the universe. Humans will discover this life when we are ready. Human civilization is replete with strife and conflict. We haven't learned to get along with ourselves, let alone life from OUTSIDE the Earth. As with most human endeavours, we trod into it without understanding the benefits or dangers. Hollywood sensationalism aside, we should be cautious, but ever pressing forward.

Transmitting a beacon presents problems of its own. What do we send? Certainly we must send something that doesn't depend on language to understand. Prime number analysis, galactic star configuration, shape of a hydrogen atom... any of these are possible... which raises another question: How long do we send it? In our current civilization, signals and signal transmitters like that cost money to build and sustain for long periods of time.

I run SETI@home because, in some small way, I can contribute to the cause. I've always had an interest in the cosmos and ET life. With this, I can share my love of it with others. I think the project is a great idea with many charitable benefits to its users.I think there should be more of a push to get SETI@home run on computers in schools, public libraries, etc., so more people can see the vision of this project.
