Personal background
My profile? Well it's like Alfred Hitchcock's when he used to introduce those mysteries from the 1950's.........but hairier.

Update: 2 May 2003

Seeing as how the picture I originally had here was getting a bit tatty, I have decided to update it with a new one.

This may finally explain my bouts of Santaphobia, or as it is commonly known as, the "other" Claustrophobia.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
So why do I run Seti@home?

Well, to be honest, I think it goes back to The Clangers.

The Clangers, for those who might be unfamiliar with them, were characters in a television series from the late 60s and early 70s on the BBC. I only ever saw it when I was on holidays on the east coast of Ireland and was able to get the BBC. (Irish people of a certain age might remember the term "Single Channel Land")

For a series that featured puppets made out of socks, it managed to include stories featuring alien ecosystems, first contact situations and soup.....yes, soup. Men were walking on the Moon, and yet the formative experience from that era that I remember most is watching "The Clangers".

Sad, when you think about it ;O).
