Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've always liked the project, from the early beginnings using the screensaver client on a Windows 98 Computer and now through the BOINC client. This was also an excellent opportunity for me to stress test my own cluster projects.
I think that SETI@Home kick-started the trend of massive/crow-sourced distributed computing in its early days, paving the way for the current platform which is used by a wide variety of projects.
The idea behind the project itself it's great, without it we would be deaf and blind to the cosmos, effectively missing further WOW signals.
Quantum computing capable clients must be developed, SETI should look forward for Quantum Computing time donations from Google, IBM, MS and even NASA, that could probably become a huge leap forward for the project.
