Personal background
I've been interested in computing since the day I got my first computer a Sinclair ZX81! Does anyone remember them? Well many years and computers later and I've made my career from it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I definitely think some sort of life exists out there whether it is a single cell creature or an energy force beyond our understanding. When you take into account they think Mars could have supported life, and that's just in our solar system, it greatly increases your chances when you look at the other billion planets in the galaxy.

The building blocks of life are still trying to be understood on our planet alone. What's to say that other atmospheres on alien planets can't support a different method of evolution?

It may be that SETI will never find a signal but the basis of the science behind it could lead us into better areas of investigation. These then may then hold the key to understanding if we are truly alone in the cosmos. Until we know for sure I'll keep on crunching.
