Personal background
I am 26. My two hobbies are computers and anything to do with propulsion systems. When I am not working, I like to tinker on my car (2000 Trans Am Firehawk Convertible). Lately I have been exploring the computer in my car with my laptop. I am looking for a way to get my car to crunch SETI. =) Joking. For work I look at manufacturing techniques for advanced propulsions systems.

In my time playing with computers I have collected a few SGI's and a PC which need something to do, so I put them on SETI. I currently have five SGI's (2xIndigo2, 2xIndy, 1xIndigo) and a 1.24Ghz WinXP Pro PeeCee running the SETI client 24/7. I recently purchased an SGI Power Challenge L with 6xR8000 CPU's which I am setting up for crunching also. I still need to install some sound deadening foam so the noise from the Challenge won't bother my girlfriend.=)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe ET is out there, the universe is just to big to believe we are alone. I think humans will have to go find ET and that they won't just fall in our laps. It will probably take a couple hundred years of space propulsion and human age suspension development before we do find ET.

The benefits and dangers of meeting ET are straight forward. They could be cool and give us new technology or they could vaporize us for giggles.

I don't think we should send a beacon so ET can find us. We should be stealth and wait till we have the technology to find them.
