Profile: Brian B

Personal background
I have just taken early retirement at the age of 54. I was previously employed by a water company in the UK as a Trade Effluent Inspector, dealing with wastewater discharges from industrial sources, such as factories, garages etc., into the local sewerage systems. In effect my job was to ensure that there were no pollution problems either within the sewerage/sewage system, or the resulting discharge of effluent to the relevant natural watercourses i.e. protecting the Environment. The job was very much a policing role, with strong statutory powers to enable the job to be done properly.

I have recently taken up an interest in astronomy, having always been interested in space from a very young age. I was fortunate to be one of those who saw the first signals beamed down from TELSTAR ( on my TV ), as well as having watched just about all the TV involved with man's mission to land a man on the moon!

Currently my retirement is something akin to a very long holiday, but I'm sure that will change when I've finished rebuilding our kitchen ( I have no excuses to make to my wife now about lack of time etc !!!! )

Regards to everyone Brian B
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
As someone with in an interest in space, the possibility of "life out there" has always held a fascination for me.

To be able to participate in the SETI project, albeit it in such a minor way, gives me a great sense of satisfaction. I personally feel that, despite critics and their criticisms of the scheme, it is a tremendously important project to undertake. ( As an added bonus, wouldn't it be absolutely fabulous to be able to say that you were actually instrumental in achieving signs of life - out there!! )

Having just started as a "HOME" user, my computer is set to run SETI@home whenever it is switched on. After all, whilst it's working on other things, it is totally transparent, and if it helps, even in a minor way..............

My closing comments are GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE INVOLVED IN SETI, and who knows, we may be nearing to achieving our goal than we think !!
