Profile: SpellCaster

Personal background
I have retired after 30 years of local government service to communities in Virginia and Tennessee. My hobbies include astronomy, scuba diving, computers, ham radio and building and flying radio controlled airplanes. I believe that there is a chance of finding intelligent life on other planets and enjoy being the founding member of our little Bedford, VA group. I am pleased to be using spare computer time to assist in this research project.
If intelligent life is discovered outside of our solar system it will profoundly affect the way we view our own lives with respect to philosophy, science and religion. If such life shares human values, the discovery will lead ultimately to conquest or defeat. The outcome will probably be determined by which society has the highest developed technology. But, perhaps the great discovery may take hundreds or even thousands of years - giving both societies time to evolve more peaceful methods of interaction. So, would I be thrilled if the "announcement" comes tomorrow? Yes! Would I be ready for it? No!
