Personal background
I'm a 17 year old Student in Manchester, England. When I'm not staring at Seti wishing I had more than a Celeron 700Mhz, I'm twanging my guitar or studying (... on the Seti web site at this moment in time lol). Im Studying Science, Maths and Computer Programming which keeps me in my toes (*points toward his overflowing maths folder*) and surprisingly gives me a good comprehension of what Seti@home is doing while Im trying to load some music up :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I grew up on Star Wars, Star Trek and Red Dwarf and it scares me to think that we're broadcasting the same shows to aliens galaxies away. Being timid and attempting to conceal our presence in the universe would achieve little and go against the essence of science. I think it is wise of us to broadcast some sortof message to declare our intentions as peaceful and show what we can offer other cultures. Similarly, searching for an alien presence holds similar and alterior advantages. We can know when someone is in range of our own message, simply know when someone is out there and have advanced warning of the Klingon invasion fleet - run for your lives!!!... oops, started playing an mp3.... Seti ... erm... false alarm. Acknowledgement of the existance of a life form capable of space travel offers us technological leaps and bounds and the ability to form interstellar colonies. You get the point :)
Seti@home is .. well the best way to strive toward this and use the whole worlds resources at almost negligable inconvenience to it. Go Seti!
