Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run Seti@home because I believe it is an excellent use of the internet rather than the usual crap of advertising, porno, and commercial interests. I signed up for the pilot project and was one of the first in on the live project (user 456 No. 52 April 10, 1999). Seti@home is a purely scientific endeavour designed to allow the average person to particpate in what may become the most important scientific discovery of the 21st Century. Whether any results are actually achieved is not as important as the science and effort behind it. If something is discovered, it would probably be a good idea to research a bit before making contact - we cannot assume that all life is benevolent. After all, how well have we as a species treated other life on our own planet.
