Personal background
Hello.

I live in Juneau, Alaska, where I supervise a staff of 5 database developers and Network managers for the State's Fish and Game department. Some have said I am old as dirt, but, really, Pearl Harbor and I celebrated our 60th birthdays within a couple of days of each other last December. I have lived in Alaska since high school (Juneau Douglas High School - Class of 1959), and can't imagine living anyplace else in the world... though I do love to travel, and I do so frequently.

I have lots of hobbies and interests. Other than having breakfast with my gang of friends on Saturday mornings, If I had to pick favorite interests, I'd say reading, biking and hiking, racquetball, movies, for small scale projects; big trips for medium scale projects, and helping my three children get on with their interests in police work, world travel, and writing a Ph.d thesis as big projects.

In July a co-worker took my visiting daughter and sister out on the waters west of Juneau for some whale watching and fishing. The halibut and coho were biting, but, unlike last year when they were everywhere around our boat, there were no whales this year.

Nice talking to everyone. Check out my web site at www.werkes.com

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run Seti at home to see how it works to tie all these spare processing cycles into a single program. Based on the two years I have been allowing two of my computers - I've just added a third - to be used for seti, I am very impressed with how it all works, and with the sheer volume of data processing work that is getting done.

In a universe of "Billions and billions..." I'm sure there are other earth type planets capable of supporting earth type life. Maybe we will find one someday. In the meantime I'm really curious to see just how successful this use of spare cycles turns out to be.

Keep up the good work!
