Profile: Paul Monfils

Personal background
Hi,
I am from Gatineau, Québec.

I was trained as a professional economist. At the age of 20, I had a Master degree in Economics from the local university.
I am 57 year of age. I worked as a professional economist and am now retired.

Along with photography, astrophysics, cosmology and history are of great passion to me.

I like science fiction (SF) movies, especially those with an open end (I mean positive in outcome, with some spiritual or «elevating» message. (I do not like SF which simply replaces an usual ennemy with aliens, I need matter to think about!) In my opinion, the movie Contact with Jodie Foster is the best SF movie ever (Carl Sagan was involved in the project).

Also, I like mathematics and admire astrophysicians. (I love «big» numbers!)Lol.
Just understanding the notion of a distance in «light-years» is fascinating to me.

Looking at the stars is always enlightening to me. I recall, in my younger age, in a remote area of Northern Gatineau, seeing the Milky Way...and dreaming about «human evolution». I feel that there must be something out there. Looking at the stars makes me feel «humble» in front of the Universe.

I like ecology as well. I have on my property about ten trees in full growth process plus other decorative bushes and lilacs. I believed that I am CO2 neutral.

Historically, my first ancestor came into the continent in the 1650s!

I contribute to SETI at Home because I want to do a bit, because of the movie «Contact», and I want to make new Facebook Friends! Lol

I am also very proud of my 25% badge, even if I participate since May 24, 2015 (only one month)! I joined the USA Team as there is none in Québec, to my knowledge, and also because I like Americans!
