Profile: The Farmer

Personal background
I work as fireman for the City of Charlotte NC. I am 38, married and have two children. I train and show american paint horses with my children. I also grow and sale some hay. I am somewhat of a science buff and have been a member of the Planetary Society since the mid 80's. I beleive in God and Jesus Christ and I go to church regularly. I used to read a lot of Sci-Fi, mixed with a little non-fiction, but for the past couple of years I have been reading nautical fiction. I play the guitar some. As for TV and movies I don't seem to have much time. I will watch some Discovery channel, History channel, Sci-fi channel, and food network. My taste in music varies from day to day, although I listen to something every day. I enjoy PC sim games and roll playing PC hack and magic games. I think I was the only football jock that played D&D in the 80's. As I read this I realize I am somewhat of a contradiction. Oh well, I seem not to get bored often.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I started running SETI for a simple reason. My computer never gets cut off and why not use the power for something useful. I have also been a Carl Sagan fan since his Cosmo TV show. Like him I believe there are others out there but we are looking for a neddle in a space and time haystack. But if we have the means to look and listen then we must. Not to do so could be one of the biggest mistakes of humand kind. After all as Carl said, if no one is out there it sure is a waste of space.
