Personal background
I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico and am 70 years old. I am retired from the Federal Aviation Adm., which I worked for 37 years. I have been in electronics for 50 years and in computer related work for 42 of those years. I like astronomy, science fiction, photography and computers. I try to keep up with most of the new devlopments in computers and related fields. My experence in computers runs from good to expert. I run SETI on a computer that I build my self. A P4 at 3.06 gig on an Gigabyte GA-8PE667 Ultra2/Pro motherboard. The OS is Windows XP professional. I run SETI full time on my computer without any problems.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I must note, just because the universe is so large, does not indicate that other life must exist! I am undecided. Is is possible we may be the only life in the univerise! Forget the other galaxies, they are to far for any contact! There is a narural isolation betueen galaxies! In a book "Rare Earth" by Peter D. Ward and astronomer Donald Brownlee, that life in all its complexity found on Earth is most likly a cosmic aberration, a unique circumstance that -- if their theory is true -- dashes the hopes of sci-fi fans and extraterrestrial hunters everywhere!

2. Why not?

3. No matter how remote the chance that there is life out there, I feel I can contribute some small effort.

4. I must say that I take SETI seriously and do not like those who make a joke about it!!!! If you do not, then get out of the program!!!
