You believe that some form extraterrestrial life (US) must surely exist, Humans may discover that life if and when WE we want YOU to find US. I am assuming you are less advanced, but when you will achieve a technically advanced level to send more than just electronic signals into deep space then contact may well be made with an extraterrestrial life form. (that probe you launched years ago still a long way to go.)
You have no conception where humans (of Earth) will be situated on the scale of development in the universe. Your First contact may provide a peek at our position on the scale. Using a few CPU cycles for this endeavor is surely a worthwhile trek if it helps you.
