Personal background
(in 2000) Hi. I have been working in the IT field for 15 years, and am an avid Seti@Home fan, running SETI@home for a number of years out of my home office. My friends and I build computers as a hobby, and try to out-do each other in terms of how many SETI radio telescope files we can process. My wish is to fire up Seti on a decent Compaq Alphaserver Wildfire or SC-series platform, with multiple EV68 or EV7 cpu's and out-do my Athlon PC at home, crunching SETI files simultaneously and setting some records.

(in 2007) Still crunching away, this time with an Athlon XP 64 using Boinc. Over 50,000 credits now.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) I try to keep an open mind about extraterrestrial life. My dad and I watched a rare phenomenon called "fireball lightning" in 1972 in Montreal, and something like that you will never forget. It makes you wonder if some of the observations have been spectacular natural phenomenon, hallucinations, vivid imagination or extra-terrestrial in origin. That's why I like Seti, as it applies a rigid scientific method to the process so at least each and everyone can contribute to the search and collaberate on the interpretation of results.

2) No, I don't believe we should waste our time on transmitting a beacon- There is far too much electromagnetic radiation we are creating right now without even trying - Besides the debates over format, frequency and direction of the beams will be cause for distraction from our focus right now on restoring peace on earth and healing our planet. Something is definitely wrong with the earth, as I am typing this on January 12th in Toronto and there is no snow on the ground yet this winter.

3) I run SETI@home because I believe the in the cause and that the project has developed a sound reputation over the years. I try to run SETI@home 24 hours per day one one PC - If I had more servers to dedicate to the cause I would be using them as well.
