I wouldn't miss it. It seems to create more drama between crunchers than anything else. There seems to be no benefit for anyone or the project.

But how does it compare to the 780Ti which it is replacing?

Unfortunately since the 980Ti has yet to be released they haven't been able to compare it to the 780Ti.

Yeah, I'm sure the 980Ti's will be considerably better than the 780Ti's that I bought and installed :) But hey, you have to admit that in regards to my upgrade that it was well worth it, hehe. There will be many future releases that will leave me drooling with "I wants!", and I'm sure the 980Ti will be one of those such releases, hehe. :)

Bonus: Just did a major upgrade to my rig by installing 2 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti GPU's at a not-too-shabby price, considering the single GPU card they replaced and how long the 780 Ti's have been available ;)

Guess I got them just in the nick of time if they came out with a replacement GPU; I was never able to get a second GTX 460 mere months after I originally built the rig as it got discontinued. That's the way the technology wagon rolls though, hehe!

That Titan card looks pretty impressive, but it'll be another 4 or so years before I am able to do any more upgrades to the rig. More than likely the next go round will require a new build to accommodate a better CPU and MB...And that's assuming the Old Lady approves such an ambitious spending endeavor. It took many months just to be allowed to spend hundreds on GPU's for this upgrade, hehe. Love her though! :)

Will the Dalai Lama reincarnate?

It's been a long time since that's been done well.

You mean what by this, exactly?

Thank you for your guidance. Should I wait to clear out all of my tasks and make the changes then, or can I do it now without messing up my current stash of tasks?

Hey folks, I finally got around to swapping out my insanely outdated GC for a new one. Is there anything I need to do to optimize it's use for S@H? All I've done is update the drivers and downloaded some WU's.

I am getting this error message in the event log, but other than that it doesn't look like there's any problems:

3/20/2015 4:46:25 PM | SETI@home | Message from server: Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of AstroPulse v7.

Seems to be crunching two WU's at a time just as with the old one....and for the same duration. I thought this bad boy would be tearing through the stuff. Any help would be much appreciated.

Not everbody uses Facebook, Twitter, My Space or other slavish dictatorial snoop sights.

...They never claimed that all news/updates etc. will only be presented across social media; rather, that there's another way of presenting that information other than just on the forums.

Chill out dude. No one's forcing you to use FB or the like.

Yes the GPUUG had made some very successfull fundraisers in the past, but I am not sure how active they are at the momemt.

And for me this is unfortunate. I usually made my donations when there was an active fundraiser sticky on the forums; for some reason, it always inspired me to donate. That being said, I feel inspired by Spud's perhaps unintentional fundraising trend. Thank you, Spud1200.

The problem I faced when wanting to throw some names into the pot for this thread became more and more evident when I tried to pick someone that would, in fact, represent all humans. Because there is no global mentality present, it is impossible to please the majority by making a choice. (This is not to written to close the door on everyone's choices here, this is just the problem I faced when wanting to participate in this thread). By that I mean the world is still based on the desires of countries and the people of those said countries. Example: The United States and Russia or Iraq or Iran or....uh....hmm: The United States seems to be not so good bedfellows with quite a few other nations out yonder, so a choice from there would not be a good choice. Let alone the political in-fighting within the US...If a Dem gets handed the opportunity the backlash from the Righties would be ridiculous and vise versa.

My original choice would have been the Dalai Lama, a religious leader who would not be the choice for atheists as well as all the other religions out there. And then their would be the Chinese untiring opposition to that choice.

Point being: I don't think there would ever be a choice that would even come close to making the majority of the human civilization happy at this point. Perhaps a council of people?

Ok, got the wife's permission, but after doing a final check on my MB spec (link posted above), the specs of it say that it is PCI Express 2.0 compliant, whereas all of the GPU's listed are the PCI Express 3.0 interface. Other than this little nugget, I'm ready to buy. Anyone have any guidance on this issue?

An impromtu move of the computers will be taking place today from upstairs to the man cave in the basement. This comes after consideration of the upcoming summer months and my inability to crunch without interruption due to the "heat rises" phenomenon that plagues my computer systems (added humor). This also allows for a cleaning of my Voyager cruncher; double bonus. Normally, I would have run all my WUs to zero before attempting such a thing, however, I found this a couple of days ago and got the ok from the wife to purchase. The catch was: "You ain't putting that anywhere upstairs." So, I will build a bridge of my own in the man cave. heh. Since I have today off, I decided to get the move underway today.

The process will take a few hours; the bear of the process will be disassembling and reassembling the desk in the new location, and running a new cable line access to the new setup location in the basement. Fun fun :D

Ocean as Large as Lake Superior Found on Enceladus
In an unlikely corner of our solar system, scientists have discovered evidence of what they believe is a subterranean ocean. The water means a tiny moon orbiting Saturn could be one of the few places in the solar system with the right ingredients for life.
Much of the article sounds more like speculation than anything else, but still was an interesting read.

I have been wanting dual GPU's, however, the point has been made that I may not be able to achieve this feat. Out of all of the suggestions, I am thus far (however, no final conclusion has been reached, mind you), leaning on this one, only x2. However, to the above point, is it the continued assessment that 2 GPU's will not work due to space limitations?
