Howdy, folks. Took the majority of the summer off, as I always seem to struggle with heat issues in the warmer months. It always seems to be a battle in the computer room between the cruncher and the AC unit, so I powered down the computer for a few months. All systems are back online and working within normal parameters.

Did I miss anything of major significance? ;)

I tend to agree with you. This guy should be considered a whistle blower and protected for showing us what our gov't is wasting its money on.

I think it's more important for us citizens to know how badly the government is spying on us. Governments, by default, waste money in pathetic amounts all the time, so it's to be expected.

China Lifts 17-Year Ban on Dalai Lama Photos at Tibet Monastery

he decision concerning the Gaden monastery in the Tibetan capital Lhasa—one of the most historically important religious establishments in Tibet—reversed a ban introduced in 1996, the UK-based Free Tibet group told Reuters, citing sources with direct knowledge of the situation.

It was made as similar changes are being considered in other Tibetan regions of China, and may signal authorities are contemplating looser religious restrictions and a policy change over Tibet, three months after President Xi Jinping took office.

This is the best news to come out of Tibet in ages! Wonderful!

Proposals for a different approach in Tibet suggest some in China know their policies are not working

CONVENTIONAL wisdom on Tibet among Chinese officials is that when the current Dalai Lama dies, the Tibetan problem will be solved. China has tight control over the mountainous region and believes it holds all the cards. It can choose the Dalai Lama’s next incarnation and that will be that.

So Tibet-watchers have greeted with surprised interest the interview of a leading Chinese scholar on Tibet, published this month in a Hong Kong magazine. In the interview, for almost the first time in a generation, a senior government adviser suggests that China’s Tibet policy of economic development with continued political repression is not working and needs changing...

This article is promising, but unfortunately, this is not the standard view amongst anything near a majority of Chinese.

All right, even I am ready to jump on this bandwagon. The amount of credit we're getting per WU is ridiculous, especially since it takes much longer to crunch these new v7's. I know they're supposed to take longer to crunch and all that, but increase the credits earned to *at least* what we got before the v7 roll out.

Just for clarification - Is it just me, or does it seem like these v7 WU's take longer to crunch?
37) Message boards : Number crunching : Lunatics Windows Installer v0.41 Release Notes (Message 1376272)
Posted 318 days ago by Profile Sliver
No, we still leave the default to crunch 1 WU at a time, download this file, unzip it and place it into the C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu folder, then go to the advanced menu in boinc and select read config files.

Sweet. It's running two at the same time now. I ran three at a time before, is there a way to achieve this still?

I installed the new lunatics...but all the new gpu downloads are still crunching one at a time. I must have done something wrong.

FYI I am no longer able to process SAH tasks and resetting the project (previously recommended) only downloads some headers and then stops. I will muddle through and eventually get it working. But even the promised note about why all of this is happening has not shown up.

You already have many v7 work units validated. You have currently 6 work units processing. I don't understand the problem as it looks like you are processing well. Please give us more information as to what specific problems you are having.

From Gary Charpentier:

[...]If RAC is all you care about, there are other projects [that] pay far more. Switch today!

+1000 Too many crunchers here are worried about RAC. It's not a race, folks. The project is what matters, not inflating your ego by showing up in the top 10 of some list...Let go of your ego; see past that and you'll realize that we're all on the same team. No one is any better than anyone else.

Deep breaths, people. In a little while everything will be hunky-dory. In the meantime: deep breaths.

Back to the topic. v7 seems to be running pretty good on my end. Still a little confused about two different types of GPU tasks being crunched on my machine, but I know it's somehow a planned thing. Slower to crunch stuff than before, but also a planned thing I think. All in all: I gotz work so I'm happy!
