Zhao -- As an additional idea for getting experience in speaking/hearing
another language, perhaps Skype would be available, for you? It enables
instant visual/audio communication, via computer.

If it is available to you, American or British television, might help with the hearing/speaking. Or perhaps confuse you even more....

However, television talk really fast, I don't understand. The cinema is a little easier, but often I was attracted by the story without subtitles.

China has too many defects in English education. For example: our English education focus on reading and writing, but listening and speaking have great deficiency.

Many English grades are good students, they can even read English publication, fully understand the meaning. But they cannot use English to communicate, this is the biggest problem.

For most practical listening and speaking, do not attach importance to, such education is deformity.

Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions. In fact, I think, the best way to learn a language is to go to that country.

I have dozens of senior high school students are studying in Britain and the United States of America, their level of English in a few years ago, like me, but after going abroad, immediately make a spurt of progress.

My father also hope that after I graduated from university to go to Britain to master, but apparently, I'm not sure I can pass the ielts. But with my current score, it is difficult to apply to a better school.

N9jfe I am sorry my English is not good or my grammer it is one thing that I have had a lot of problems with .I'm 50 and still can't get it right . I do try I am even re reading the posts and using a dictionary or spell checker but still comes out wrong I look up the word say it to myself then come back to post it and still spell it wrong . My eye sight is not the best and I do suffer from dyslexia so sorry again but we will all just have to put up with it . believe me when I tell you that even I get very frustrated too . Having what I call brain blocks with words I do know but just can't seem to remember when i'm typing really pisses me off at times and so when it is really bad it means i'm having a bad day and every word I try and type is giving me a brain block and i'm going back and forth checking spell and then I just give up .

Reminded me of my father, he is 50 years old, he in EMBA, need to take an examination of English.
Whenever I see my father wears glasses in the middle of the night to English dictionary, have to spend long time with his English paper (he was almost to refer to a word a word), I really love him.
His memory decline rapidly, a lot of words to remember and forget.
And grammar problems, he had to ask again and again.

Interesting that China is so different to the West, I would have thought that they would all be compelled to vote and show an interest. Out older generation were brought up to believe that it was their duty to play a part in helping to run the country by voting in elections. The younger generation tend to see voting as merely an option for them, and don't seem to feel that they have any responsibility to their country at all. I know that is a sweeping generalisation, but it covers most of the under 30's that I know. Perhaps I should get a better class of acquaintances !

Chris, That was the case here in the states when I fisrt started voting. I think it is a family fault thast the kids never learned the importance of voting. I was lucky My parents taught us that it is your civic duty to vote. I carried that over to my kids also.
I have never missed an election since 1970, That was the first year I could vote.

I think we are starting to see a change from the last few elections over here though. More young folks are starting to vote.

My parents never told me to vote is my responsibility, my grandfather is the same, this is our ridiculous democracy. Our textbooks tell us that everyone has the right to vote, but no one told us where to vote. Or the vote is what kind of?

I suppose he and his translation engine have enough of a hard time already without looking up completely different words :D

Translation software really has a lot of problems, mistakes in grammar, sentence order, and the meaning. It gives me a headache sometimes.

As far as I know, the older generation of Chinese people are more concerned about their survival status.They work hard for their children, to the sons and daughters of the house and car.The high prices and price obliterated all political enthusiasm.

Next 20
