I found this article about a denial of service attack directed at HE yesterday. It may be just coincidence, but I can't help wondering if it is connected to the current S@H outage.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/connect/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501833&objectid=10756610
An online assault on a California company knocked out some of Vodafone's internet services yesterday.

Hurricane Electric, which provides Vodafone's international internet services, was struck by a denial of service attack around 11am.

Lost power for 14 hours, but not sure that really mattered since my cache is now empty and no results ready to send :-P Luckily, there are 1000+ waiting for validation and a happy GPUGRID project using my rig. Hope everyone was safe...

One bad storm in 93 I lost power for 3 weeks and my shed blew away and my home had a lot of wind damage.

That sounds like the the start of a good country music song :)

I just got my power back up here in New Hampshire after a 15 hour outage. Not too bad considering. I too have seen a heck of a lot worse. This storm resulted in just a lot of small tree branches on the ground to clean up and a little bit of water damage to the driveway. Anyway, the 'puter is back up and crunching now. That's what's important, right?

It is clearly that 'One on't cross beams gone owt askew on treddle'....

What on earth does that mean?

I don't know - Mr Wentworth just told me to come in here and say that there was trouble at the mill, that's all - I didn't expect a kind of Spanish Inquisition.

Since mid June on only one of my 2 machines. It connects reliably when using a proxy, but only occasionally when not using proxy server.

I don't know about Jim, but I am. Connections have been solid since last night on proxy server 82.206.129.160 port 3128. I've tried to connect a couple of times without the proxy and no-joy. So I'll leave it on the proxy for now.

That worked for me but with a bit of a mixed result. I entered the server in your example and the 20 tasks that I have been trying to download for the past 3 days came through immediately after adding the proxy server. And then I got 20 more new jobs after that. But part way through downloading the 20 new jobs the connection seemed to die. So I tried the next server on the list in the link you provided and comms were restored. Only time will tell how long it will stay up. But at laeast for the first time in 3 days I am all caught up and have new work to chew on. Thank you! I tip my hat to you.

Hey all - I'm trying to characterize this current problem where some users are unable to reach any of our servers through Hurricane Electric. If possible please answer in this thread the following questions (feel free to leave out anything you want to keep private, or don't understand):

1. Are you able to reach ANY of the upload, download, or scheduling servers?
2. When did you start having this problem?
3. What is your ISP?
4. What is your geographic location?
5. What happens when you ping 208.68.240.13? 208.68.240.16? 208.68.240.18? 208.68.240.20?
6. How about traceroutes of the above four addresses?
7. Or nslookups of the above four addresses?

Or if you know what the exact problem is (or if there isn't really a single problem but a set of problems) that would be useful, too.

Thanks!

- Matt

I am running 2 machines over the same DSL modem/router. One is running win7-64 with an AMD quad core and it seems to communicate S@H normally. The other is an older single core Celeron D machine running Linux Ubuntu. That one was also communicating fine up until 2 weeks ago. Now it is only able to connect to S@H to download, upload, or report once or twice a day at best. Why one works and the other doesn’t is a mystery. This data is from the Ubuntu machine.

I too am using win 7 with IE 9 and I had no trouble finding your team, and many others, when I did a search using the word Hewlett. I know this doesn't help you much. But whatever the source of your trouble is, it does not seem to be with the web site or inherent to the win 7/IE 9 combo. Good luck with your troubleshooting.

Not all cookies are created equal. Some are desireable and others are undesireable. I use CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) to manage my cookies. It allows me to pick out the ones I want to keep and get rid of the rest. It's a freeware program.

11.5 inches (29cm) of new snow fell today here in New Hampshire. I think it was the same system that hit Bill Walker earlier. This pretty much assures that we'll have a white Christmas.

1. change a diaper – It’s been a while, but I think I could figure it out.

2. plan an invasion – maybe a little one.

3. butcher a hog – I could dress one out, but I don’t think I could do a good job at butchering one

4. conn a ship – been there, done that.

5. design a building – Does a tool shed count? Prpbably not.

6. write a sonnet – It would be utter dreck, but I could probably do it.

7. balance accounts – no problem.

8. build a wall – stone and wood.

9. set a bone – I think I could. I’ve been trained to do it, but have not had to yet

10. comfort the dying – I don’t know how comforting I was, but I gave I my best.

11. take orders – Aye, Aye!

12. give orders – Oh yah, you betcha!

13. cooperate – When I must.

14. act alone – I am better at that.

15. solve equations – I’m a bit rusty, but I think I could.

16. analyze a new problem – That’s what I like best.

17. pitch manure – Figuratively and literally. I grew up next to a dairy farm.

18. program a computer – not if my life depended on it.

19. cook a tasty meal - Yes – but just one.

20. fight efficiently – Nope. I was trained to use nuclear weapons. Effective, but highly inefficient.

21. die gallantly – I guess I’ll only know that when the time come.

So I guess that's 16 or 17 out of 21. Is that a passing grade?

Posted 1659 days ago by Profile White Mountain Wes
There are many reasons that an upload doesn't go though. Most of the time it has something to do with the servers being down or communications being maxed out. It's nothing to worry about. The manager will keep on trying to send it until it goes through.
