1) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Deadline on work units (Message 1686031)

Is it possible to set the program seti@home to finished work based on the nearest deadline? I have work with a deadline of 6/15/15 but it is working on the work that has a deadline of 7/21/15.

I have been running Seti@Home since 1999 and back then I was sure that a signal would be detected during my lifetime. Now that it is 2015 I am not so sure. The optimism of youth is slowly fading. I will continue to run Seti@Home as long as there is a spark of hope.

We will find the signal under the last rock we look under.

Reduce the "additional days" to less than 1 - my computers are set to 0.1, or less, and I sit with maximum possible number of tasks (100 for the cpu, plus 100 for each gpu)

I changed it to .1 Thanks.

Mine says "5 days of work" to store
5 additional days of work.

I'm only getting a couple of work units at a time. I used to get several units to process. Do I have a setting incorrect or are we just getting a couple at a time now?

I wonder what is the total power consumption of all our efforts to find a seti signal each year?
8) Message boards : SETI@home Science : SHGb02+14a or the 'wow' signal (Message 1178811)
Posted 17 Dec 2011 by Profile PKII
To be honest, I doubt that signal actually occurred. Or if it did occur, it was not something that came from space. It was never found again, he had no precise location where it was from, and I think his setup was a bit crude. I read that professionals have already examined the area around where he found the signal, and nothing was ever found after that. Therefore, I'm extremely skeptical about the Wow! signal.

Just because the signal was never found again doesn't mean it was never sent. I believe the Wow! signal is the first true contact from another civilization in our galaxy. Just think about some of the signals we have sent out they didn't repeat. Maybe the Wow! signal was just their first attempt at contact.

Nature said it cost 1.5 million dollars/year.

That is nothing compared to the 6 billion they LOST in IRAQ now why would anyone in their right mind send IRAQ 12 billion in CASH and not expect someone to steal it.

See www.setiquest.org. There is a video on the ATA explaining things.
Tullio

All I saw there some useless videos of the Telescope and a one Liner that said it would be opening again. : /

You would think it would be BIG news with all the noise they made about it being shut down.
11) Message boards : SETI@home Science : DO YOU HAVE TURNED ON YOUR SETI SOFTWARE THE WHOLE DAY? (Message 1117606)
Posted 16 Jun 2011 by Profile PKII
Hello all, I would like to know if you people use your Seti@home software the whole day in your computer? is it good to leave it on the whole day? I would like to know what are the best ways to use it. And do you have hopes that in the future somebody will catch a signal from extraterrestrials?

thanks

.

Not me. I just run it on the weekends now that I got a new graphics card that loves power. : / Yes we will find a signal from ET if we haven't already found it. ;)

Is the Allen Array still in Hibernation or active? I just visited the site of www.seti.org and there is no mention that is in hibernation now.

I have seti set to keep 5 days worth of work but when I want to do another project it automatically sets its project for the same 5 days and I'm stuck with tons of work I could never process in a million years. How can I set 5 day for seti and only get 1 work for another project?

I got a new graphics card to process work faster. Its a lot faster now. I could care less what my RAC is I've been using Seti@home since it came out. I lost my credit from a previous work but its not important. Results are only important and I could care less if its me or someone else. I hope we find a real signal soon. :)

Unless I am doing something wrong, I cannot get the coordinates to appear on Google Mars. EDIT: Nevermind. I got it. And no...it's not near any known landers, crafts, rovers or etc. It is literally alone in the middle of no where.

They probably when out picking up trash from previous missions while they are stationed on the secret manned mission to mars. Supplies I assume are limited.

Back to looking for Primes.....and I just got this new graphics card.... : /

Another update...though I am only posting this link because it made me LOL.
http://www.huliq.com/10128/viral-youtube-video-google-earth-mars-explorer-shows-evidence-life

End of article: Alfred McEwen, a planetary geologist at the Lunar and Planetary Lab at the University of Arizona and also the Director of the Planetary Imaging Research Laboratory, calls it a digital glitch, stating “It looks like a linear streak artifact produced by a cosmic ray,” as he spoke with Space.com.

So...SWAMP GAS...lol sorry I had to say it.

Could be a crashed UFO. I think we need to move the Hubble and get a better photo.

I was looking for lost (crashed) spacecraft and the Viking Landers when I stumbled upon it. Anyone know where they are located?

I saw that a while back while looking at mars. I didn't report it because I thought it was ice. I still think that. ;)

A pretty good geometrical formation to be ice. EDIT: also compare the image below to the actual image:

Upper right corner area...almost a similarity.

Next time I see something near Area 51 on Google earth I'm saying something. lol

Maybe this is a good spot for the next rover. :)

Now wouldn't that be funny if its actually left over cities that used to be on mars or even a top secret manned mars mission. lol

It's a good thing I like to crunch multiple projects. My Seti work is all done and waiting for upload. Milkway is done and waiting for the server to come back. Climate prediction is waiting for the firewall to be fixed to download the next workunit.

So now my GPU is now idle, but I still have Einstein, Rosetta, Poem and WCG on my main machine and Malaria on the household server. Here's hoping I don't lose any more projects in the next few days! LOL

Just got a new graphics card yesterday. Starting to pump out units fast. Now most are stuck on Uploading all day.....Looking for primes now... : /

Yes, it will help your GPU get through work faster at the risk of frying your GPU if you don't watch your temps.

Ok. Thanks. It is running 4 times faster than my old card so this will do till I do another upgrade. :)
