I'll keep it running, waiting for a solution, because it is more useful to run low efficiency cuda than none. 6.6.36 w/ 2.8.7 widgets.

Tonight, there were 13 units in process and the times are more than 3 hours each instead of 1:07/1:10 typical time: it is consuming a lot of extra time to crunch them, an incredible waste of computing power. I ask for help again. I aborted 2 of the units with more than 3:30 hours (there were 4 in this condition) that seems to be the cause, kept just one running and suspended all other 10. NOW IT IS RUNNING JUST 1 CUDA AT A TIME. And the numbers got to grow again. Thanks to all for the assistance, Eduardo P.S.: I researched the work done recently and found that it was costing up to 100% more time to crunch each cuda unit.

(Message 906688) Posted 12 Jun 2009 by Eduardo Bicudo Dreyfuss Post: My GPU is running 6 WUs, swtching among them each 5 to 30 minutes. The problem is that it seems to take a good time to retake a WU each time it switches and thus waisting a lot of time. Wich is the fastest way? If the one-at-a-time is the fastest way, how to fix it? This problem started after updating from 6.6.20 to 6.6.31. Is an "standard tune recipe" for cpu and gpu available? I started 6.6.20&cuda on May 13th and experienced a very rising curve up to Jun 1st when turn the pc off for a cooler replacement. I re-boled it in again on Jun 6th, updated to 6.6.31 and after a week, no rising tendency at all. W/o cuda this pc was about 600/700 RAC and now I'm still here. I run a pentium D 3GHz 2Mb RAM 2+2 Mb cache, 8600GT w/ 6.14.11.7813 driver, XP SP3 and 100% seti. Thanks for any help, Eduardo

Replaced the cooler, it's running just fine. Shame on me for not having detected so primary kind of failure. But --it happens. Now I can see that some other things were oddly changing here and so I also expect the other issues don't show up anymore, lets see. Thanks for the advicing, Eduardo P.S.: I'm still running 6.6.20 but I'll upgrade to 6.6.31 by tomorrow.

I have red marks in the event viewer in the Application and System roots, see below. Regarding temperature, I guess I have a good arrange of fans but I'll see this more closely this week and manage to improve a little more as a precaution. I will also ask for a friend of mine who is a TI expert to come and try to understand the red marks meanings. And sinced I have one of those local built systems and I've been improving it these last 3 years, I'll have him to do a compatibility diagnostic here, thanks for the tips. Anyway, is it normal the BOINC to wash out the CUDA units and redownload the SETI 6.08 independently? This solved the problems everytime! Is there any corruption weakness inthe 6.08? Is it previewed in the BOINC 6.6.20 to flush only CUDA units and software when re-satarting in Safe Mode? Following find the Application and System LOGs. 29) Questions and Answers : Windows : PC crashes, BOINC flushes CUDA WUs and re-downloads Seti 6.08 (Message 902255) Posted 1 Jun 2009 by Eduardo Bicudo Dreyfuss Post: 1st) pc crashes solid and I couldn't find out why yet. It freezes sometimes when running an Atrativa game or a Word text, but not always. 2nd) resetting the pc, it freezes again at beginning of Seti processing, always. 3rd) Sometimes I managed to get BOINC into snooze mode before it crashes again, having the chance to review all settings: nothing helped, including limit to 1 cpu or removing all hardware accelerations, etc. 4th) Resettig in Safety Mode caused BOINC to independently flushes away all CUDA WUs and started to re-download SETI 6.08: THIS did help! Is there any tunning I can do to avoid it to freezes out? I have my pc restarted a month ago and this is the first time it runs CUDA. It run the first 2 weeks without a problem and then the solid crashes began and the only additional applications it seems to toleate are the Internet Explorer and the Excel. Pentium D 3GHz 2G RAM, XP SP3, 8600GT. Thanks for any help, Eduardo

I remembered of the local override file and I cleared it, returning to the web based settings (10 + 1 days). At the 1st moment I got a lot more non-cuda WUs and I have now - and for the first time - an equilibrated amount of each WU type. But still just for a couple of days only and the CLIENT IS NOT REQUESTING MORE WORK. Let's see if it fills up. Meanwhile, where did you find that global_prefs_override.xml file? I couldn't find one. 33) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Managing Work Unit Run Order (Message 899170) Posted 24 May 2009 by Eduardo Bicudo Dreyfuss Post: BOINC is definitely capable in not missing deadlines under normal conditions, considering what it knows. BUT, leaving home for a long weekend, vacations or so, one may choose to turn the computers off for protection, mainly in the rainny seasons and, in these cases, the BOINC client DOES NOT KNOW THAT and so, it cannot manage that. An EARLY-DEADLINE-FIRST option would be useful. Such absences happen to me dozen-a-year and I'm used to turn the pc off during spring and summer. I did miss deadlines once or twice a year, not a big deal, but the early-deadline-first option is an easy thing to add to the client. Regards, Eduardo

I have no problems at all. My only remaining concern is to tell BOINC people about the connection problems so they can investigate it and eventually fix it. My location is Rio de Janeiro State and this problem maybe affect other brazilian locations. Boinc-wiki sites are OK. I couldn't connect to BOINC FAQ or BOINC Q&A so I ask you to post a message there reporting these problems back here in Brazil. Thank you, Eduardo
36) Questions and Answers : Windows : Upgrading BOINC (Message 887031) Posted 21 Apr 2009 by Eduardo Bicudo Dreyfuss Post: There is a problem with the boinc site or with the adressess "boinc.berkeley.edu" and "boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php". I found that 2 other computers couldn't cannect the site: one is a friend's computer from my town (Resende - Rio de Janeiro State) that never connected boinc previously and the other is my daughter's from Rio de Janeiro city. To them both the result was the same as mine, i.e., a blank navigator page and the message "done" almost instantly. My daughter crunches for climate.prediction and she hadn't been able of connecting boinc for the last 3 or 4 months. She gave me an alternative adress "boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php". I had no problem in connecting it and it looked like a genuine boinc site so I downloaded and now I have my new computer registered and starting to crunch seti. I'm posting a message about this findings in the Boinc Q&A. Eduardo P.S.: I checked and this computer does NOT have a block of any kind.

I even tried to desable the windows firewall... OK, thank you for your patience and willingness in helping me. I'm going to ask the IT people at work if there is any block or a new company policy or what. Thank everybody, Eduardo P.S.: yes, I will tell you about the end of this !

I tried Firefox with same result that is the browser almost instantly returns a blank page and a "done" message. I intalled Firefox withOUT importing any settings or whatelse.
