New work download issues
(Message 1343907)
Posted 71 days ago by Gatekeeper
I have looked at the site..i am wary of modifying anything on such a new machine..but it seems others have been able to restore previous settings without issues..i noticed your post didnt mention windows 8?..thanks for the help. "new" machines usually have default settings for everything, aiming at the lowest common denominator. You already know the settings you have aren't working. The TCP optimizer has been around forever, and it WORKS REALLY WELL. It does back up your old settings, should you ever need or want to go back. And, as near as I can tell from the SG site, it works with Win8. |

SETI not using all my CPUs
(Message 1343894)
Posted 71 days ago by Gatekeeper
If you're running multiple projects, BOINC could be trying to balance your resource share allocations. If you're only running SETI, be sure your preferences are set to "on multiprocessor systems, use" 100% "of the processors". Note this setting MIGHT slow down your GPU processing. |

(Message 1342841)
Posted 75 days ago by Gatekeeper
You change the option of your PC in website of seti@home Not necessarily. The maximum amount that ANY user can receive on a single device is 200 workunits (100 for CPU, 100 for GPU) regardless of how many cores the CPU has, or how many GPU's are installed. |

Groups?
(Message 1338794)

I'm not sure what you mean by "groups". Are you referring to teams? If so, they're just groups of members, sometimes focused around a common interest or enterprise, like alumni of a certain college, or former military personnel by branch of service. Some teams will accept anyone as a new member, others are by invite only. There is no added benefit to either belonging or not belonging to a team. |

I am having a similar issue as the original poster, however, when I click your link it brings me to the home, where the most recently displayed news update was in regards to sometime in December. Everything looks good on your end. You just got some new work for both CPU and GPU about 20 minutes ago (as of now). EDIT: some of these units might not have reached you yet. You were assigned 115 units, but it looks like some are "ghost" units; that just means that the Berkeley server and your system couldn't finish the link to send you the work. BOINC will try again, about once every five or so minutes, to get the work to you. All you need do is be patient. "Ghost" re-sends only arrive in groups of 20 max. |

How do I run constantly, not just in idle?
(Message 1338772)
Posted 91 days ago by Gatekeeper
Topic says it all. I was wondering if anyone could assist me in having this thing always running and analyzing data even if I am active and not idle. From Advanced view, select "Tools", then "computing preferences". Under the tab for processor usage, make sure the boxes for "while computer is in use" and "use GPU while computer is in use" are checked. Make sure there is a zero on the line that says "while computer usage is less than __ %" and that the hh:mm numbers on the next line are equal. |

I was about to ask for HELP , then noticed results !!!
(Message 1338631)

Well, you're still running optimized apps from Lunatics. See, for example, here. I'm guessing that's because when you uninstalled/reinstalled, you didn't remove the app_info.xml file that was created when you installed the opti-apps. If you really want to run the stock apps, you'll have to remove that file. Having said that, be aware that if you do that, your performance, especially on GPU work, will suffer. Your results look good to me, as well, and you can manually install the AP GPU program, if you feel confident in manually editing the xml. |

It's a compatibility problem between your card and the "stock" CUDA app. See this message: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=70473&postid=1324731 |

Seti not downloading any workunits
(Message 1335990)
Posted 98 days ago by Gatekeeper
Still no downloaded WU's from SETI 1244 Central 2/8/2013 In addition to posting about your log, you might also want to check your preferences for the project. It looks like about an hour after your last post, seti assigned you three AP WU's for your GPU, but no MB WU's. Could you have possibly changed your preferences to not receive MB's, or changed your "location" settings to something different? |

New Computer Question
(Message 1334421)

1) Alot would depend on what ATI card was in it. But since I'm an Nvidia guy, one of the ATI folks here would have to offer an opinion. 2) Most of the "top end" producers here build their own rigs. I'm running 3 myself. But if your budget is in the $400 range, there's no point in a list of equipment. I don't mean by that statement that a $400 system won't crunch, it just won't crunch as well as, say, a $2000 system. |

How does a CPU only rig get over 3300 workunits? And how does he get zero run time with normal CPU time? EDIT: Ahh..he's using ver 5.10.45. |

OK, running optimized lunatics apps version .40. The four that have erred out recently are all B6_P0 units, which tend to be heavily blanked and therefore frequently err out quickly. Others are not so susceptible to this problem, so I'd wait to see how they are handled. |

I don't see any problems on the rig in question, so my best guess is it's just the luck of the draw that you've not downloaded any GPU work, just CPU work. Unless you've changed a setting recently, just be patient and it will sort itself out over time. |

Has anyone had this notice from BOINC? Usually, when I've seen this message, it means that there is no internet connection outbound from your system. You can check this by trying to light off IE or your other favorite browser. |

It's not you. See the top news entry here New work has been allowed to run out in advance of this shutdown. My best guess is that after everything comes up again, it'll be a week before things "normalize" |

Can that file,be created? and if so where should i place it? or is it a hidden file? sorry for all the question. app_info would do nothing for you without the optimized apps that are temporarily not available. as to the Alpha BOINC release, it's not recommended for the general public due to the high potential for bugs. |
