I'm not 100% sure its working..

i have a 680gtx and a 550ti...

i can still only see 1 instance of the gpu client running.. but i think its gotten faster.

is there a way i can find out if it actually is using both gpus?

thanks

Your rig is still showing the 680 as your only GPU. Did you follow the instructions Ulrich gave you? If so, did you stop, close, and then re-start BOINC after you created the file as mentioned? When working correctly, you'll see two GPU WU's running simultaneously.

I don't know squat about Linux, so it's all gibberish to me. :)

i have installed bionc on my laptop that has a nvidia ion 2 chipset... i have finally found drivers that work properly but thus far i havent found away to make the boinc manager use my gpu to crunch number.. andone have ideas?

AFAIK, a Linux GPU app hasn't been developed yet for Seti V7, though it is/was being worked on.

The OP also has 89 "abandoned" tasks from about 17 hours ago, and no GPU listed in his system description.

So THAT is how one gets to #5 and #6 in the system rankings. Dayum, I thought I was doing it right, but guess I must be doing it un-right

A good portion of your invalids, as well as quite a few of your pendings, for GPU work are showing as (-9) overflow errors. IIRC, one of the causes of these errors is GPU overheating. How are your temps on the GPU?

Check out T Throttle. It can certainly help GPU overheating.

Validations have ceased. For me, nothing has been validated for a couple hours...

Yup validation seems dead right now. I have lots of WU's finished by both me and my wingman, not being validated. It started just before all transitioners went red.

Validation has slowed, but, at least for me, is continuing over the last hour or so.

Note this AP WU.

Can anyone explain why my job was marked as invalid? It looks for all the world to me that my results were identical to the canonical result, and returned before the 3rd copy came back.

I think the OP may be referring to his climate prediction account. The project seems to be having some server/access issues.
51) Message boards : Number crunching : Question about my first AP error. (Message 1389076)
Posted 407 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
Hello Everyone,

I have gotten my first AP error, unfortunately.

It was a task that was made to run on my NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS, on windows XP.

I believe that this is the culprit task: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=3067577961

The information here sure looks to be a lot of gibberish to me. Am I going to be destined to not run AP on my graphics card on that rig? I've already downloaded at least one more AP onto that machine automatically, and I fear a similar outcome.

Does anyone have an idea what went wrong?

My first suspicion is that your driver is seriously old and most likely should be updated. Having said that, the run times for the WU are VERY long, even for an AP on an older card. It may be that the 8800 series is not up to the task of AP processing. But I'd update the driver and try another WU to see what happens.

Is it possible to run more than one task at a time on this Nivida gt 430 (PCI)Cuda Gpu? If so how do I do that? Currently I run 2 tasks at once on this old machine. 1 on the cpu, and one on the Gpu I installed. Thanks for the help if there is one.

You can certainly try to run 2X, but I wouldn't expect any positive performance gains as a result of doing so. Even the higher end cards in the 500 and 600 series are having to run 2 at a time, rather than the three at a time possible under MBv6.

Gundolf is quite right: you should update your Nvidia driver (from the NVidia site, not elsewhere) to something in the 300 series. I think 320.49 is current at this time, but I haven't checked in a few weeks.
54) Questions and Answers : Getting started : "Interesting" WUs? (Message 1387864)
Posted 412 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
I hear people talking about "interesting units" - how do we find out if we've had any? Some say it's in your states, others say they email you (but I've never gotten either) w/ over 2 million WUs.

If it makes you feel any better, NO ONE has ever been individually notified about anything "interesting", nor would I expect anyone would be. Any announcement would come through current and appropriate scientific publications, though rumor is the systems that identified the "find" would be credited in the publication.
55) Message boards : Number crunching : Unit prioritization (Message 1386903)

Unless something has changed, BOINC always goes first in first out(FIFO) for work completion. In the unlikely event that your computer is likely to miss a deadline it will start working the shortest deadline first.

I have to disagree - whenever the estimated duration goes haywire such as AP estimated to take 30-40 times longer than they ever have, the tasks running as high priority seem to be more randomly selected.

On my system, a few weeks ago tasks with deadlines two weeks away were skipped and those with deadlines four to five weeks away were running in false panic mode. I do not have screen captures to show this but I am sure that others have often reported similar issues. I have also noted that often tasks with much earlier deadlines were often suspended even if mere minutes of processing remained in favor of poorly selected "high priority" tasks with deadlines weeks later.

IIRC, the logic that BOINC uses in "high priority" is really simple and more or less obvious: If BOINC thinks that a certain workunit or group of units won't finish by deadline, it'll run them in HP until the time calculations drop below "panic" level. It makes sense that such units would be the ones with the farthest out due dates, BOINC thinks they won't get done in time.

Thanks for the heads-up. I understand this restriction, but I am not going to un/reinstall unless I can use the card. First I want to know it can be used, then if I can, I will do the necessary reconfigurations to use it.

There is no obvious reason, as long as you have the proper Nvidia driver installed, that the card shouldn't work. It's not a terribly powerful card, but it should run one WU at a time faster than a comparable CPU unit. Of course, unless you un/reinstall BOINC after insuring a proper driver is in place, it's a sure thing that, under your present configuration, it WON'T work.

Posted 422 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
I've tried to determine which version of SAT that I'm running, but have been able to do so when looking at the "Properties" of the project. I'm running a Windows 7 Home Premium with 4 GB (soon to be 8GB) of memory and a 1TB hard drive. How do I find the version I'm running and if it is not Ver. 7, how do I download at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu?

Thanks,
Steve Greene

Both your rigs are running v7. One of them also has an AP v6 WU. You can see that by looking here and clicking on "tasks" for each rig.

EDIT: Spitfire has faster fingers than I........

Curious, why don't you do AP work units?

Going by the enquiries on the forum they take a lot more effort to set things up to process without issues.

Like you I was suspicious of crunching AP's but the crashing RAC of my major cruncher since June 1 forced me to do something. The effort required I think depends on whether you have an ATI or an Nvidia card(s). Setting up an ATI card seems to involve a bit more fuss. But I can't really comment as I don't have any ATI cards

Neither do i, so I might wait to see just how far my RAC does fall, then give it a go.
If it's just a case of running Lunatics, changing the CPU value from .04 to .5 it may be worth the effort.

No doubt that we NV users have an easier go of it than ATI folks. I started running the opencl AP's with the new installer release, but stopped when I ran into errors that were apparently caused by BOINC forcibly terminating jobs prior to their normal EOJ exit. I don't know whether or not a fix for that issue has been accomplished.

Since your computer(s) are hidden, we can't take a look at your work to see if there are any clues in their error output. Please unhide them so we can help. There is no personal information displayed in unhidden system information.
60) Questions and Answers : Windows : Credits not accumulating but work still done (Message 1383491)
Posted 425 days ago by Profile Gatekeeper
My computer is working on SETI and AstroPulse projects.

Approximately two weeks ago, my total number of credits stopped accumulating at 299,344 although work is continuing to be done and new projects are being downloaded.

What needs to be done?

First off: You're using the cal_ati apps for your GPU, and these have been deprecated by the project due to problems (like your 9 errors). See this post and note that a fix might not be coming anytime soon.

The CPU units should continue to run normally.
