No joy on uploads, even after the weekly outage/maintenance period, and the rebooting of my local project.

Transfers tab shows: "Uploading 0.00 KBps"
Messages tab shows: "10/3/2012 7:59:24 AM SETI@home Temporarily failed upload of 21jn12ac.10893.7429.10.10.102_1_0: connect() failed"

First after the outage. I won that competition...

LOL

The real competition will begin when the upload and download servers come back online and we all try to return completed work and demand for new work creates its own ddos event.

Thanks..........

Ya know, I have thought, long and hard about posting these thoughts, but I must.

First of all.......get lost.

Those of us who want to continue the search do not need the continued sniping about the way the project is running at present.........go away.

We don't need to hear from you every day how shitty it is.
Those of us who have been around for a few years longer than you know the ropes.

Or piss off .

On the contrary: I welcome new participants to the project and I value their contributions. To whatever extent we can it is appropriate that we help them get as addicted to SETI as some of us have over the years. If they post about their project concerns then we should not devalue their concerns, we should share factual information (to the limited extent that it is available)and do what we can to help them thru the rough spots.

While the SETI of today is not the project I joined many years ago, and while I am not satisfied with how it is currently running, I have not walked away. Such is the nature of an addiction.

Don't you think the admins get as tired about not answering these questions as you do about asking them?

No I do not. I think the admins are either ignoring the problem, or are ignorant of the effect it has on the moral of the project users.

No whine here, just facts.

Perhaps the project managers like the whining like the kittens like the purr

I believe the whining would be reduced if the project managers would communicate a bit more frequently.

Acknowledge the problem and make it an announcement.

But the silence from the managers is becoming very annoying.

I have decided to be part of the solution. I will not be doing any hardware upgrades and the GPU purchases that were planned have been cancelled. This will reduce the load on the SETI bandwidth.

If a donation would result in more project uptime,
Or an increase in communication about the project from staff,

I'm feeling like a cynic.
I also can no longer justify the BOINC hardware that I wanted to purchase....

Is this sale for real, or just the ramblings of a nut?

Providing Berkeley BOINC with more high power CPU's is pointless if they cannot keep their network connection working properly....

Likewise I cannot justify replacing my aging farm if Berkeley cannot keep the work flowing.

No I do not do other projects and do not need a backup project so take that arguement elsewhere.

My expectations are low:

Keep a reasonable amount of work flowing on a regular basis.
Post updates when there is a breakdown.
Let the world know when we find ET.
Post my earned credits regularly and reliably.

Please add an option to the unified installer so I can select the number of GPU tasks and CPU cores that I want to run at a time. This would be much cleaner than editing the file after the fact.

example:
Number of CPU cores to leave idle: 1
Number of GPU work units to run: 3

You'd think that people around here would be use to the difficultly reaching the servers after an outage. :-o

It will settle down once about 250K computers stop hitting them up. ;)

Cheers.

I am used to the Tuesday outage.

I am not used to seeing it on Monday, Tuesday and now Wednesday still......

Bare with it Eaglescouter, mine tried and got a can't connect to server then turned around a minute later and got right through. It's catch as catch can right now as everybody fills up after the outage.

I'm still here. Today my machines are unable to upload completed work.
