Download links for all files (only the first is needed when running without graphics, all are needed with graphics)

Once app_info.xml has been modified, and all files are in place, restart BOINC.

It's me again.

I got this error:
process exited with code 22 (0x16, -234)

(@ Ubuntu Hardy Heron Server LTS)

Solved by
chmod +x astropulse_4.35_i686-pc-linux-gnu
chmod +x ap_graphics_4.35_i686-pc-linux-gnu

in the directory projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu

So don't forget this during configuring app_info.xml :)

I've closed the thread too early, because one more question came up ;)

I know that there are only a few AP WU's out there, but how do I verify that BOINC recognized both applications entered in app_info.xml? The message "Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform" just tells me, that BOINC found that file. Any hint?

I wonder what happens to Astropulse if I'm running S@H as optimized application via anonymous platform (using app_info.xml). Does BOINC still download the AP application no matter which application is used for S@H? If not, what to do then?

Posted 25 Feb 2006 by Profile RRipley
Post:
If you go to The BOINC manager you can see the English layout of V5.2.x.

In the Boinc Manager,
The language selection is in the Optionen (option) menu.
Allgemein (General) tab - Sprachauswahl (Language) Selection drop down window.
Select English and click Bestätigen (OK).
Click OK on the pop up screen.
Stop Boinc using the Datei (File) menu - Beenden (Exit).
Restart Boinc. It should come up in English.

As a german user I can confirm the german strings.
The popup tells you "Die voreingestellte Sprache des BOINC Managers wurde geändert. Damit des wirksam wird müssen Sie das Programm neustarten."

Well, which version of BOINC you're using?

If BOINC is running in earliest deadline first mode, it does not download any new work until BOINC can safely reach the deadlines of the remaining WUs.

2. Using "MSCONFIG" to show the automatically starting programs in Windows, Boinc has this description:

"Allows you to control the core client, attach to new projects, detatch from old projects and otherwise maintain the health of the BOINC system"

For: C:PROGRA~!\\BOINC\\BOINCMGR.EXE

WHY SO MANY WORDS? I have to scroll across to see what other programs are running - their descriptions are more like: "HP Control Manager" or "Tweak UI" - It's obvious what the programs are at this level!

I can't even find the registry key to manually edit this, so does anyone have a solution to this?

I'm helping MJ: The startup programs are the ones you can see in your Programs -> Autostart folder. Do a right click over BOINC Manager, head to the comment field and shorten the text.

By the way: you can move the columns in MS programs by clicking on the column names and moving them left or right ...

***Additional information***

I double clicked on the file boinc.exe and it opened a dos window and appeared to be running. I then opened the BOINC Manager and it is now working (With the extra dos window open). It lost my old work units but it was able to download a new one and start crunching.

So it now looks like the BOINC Manager is unable to start boinc.exe on its own.

Is this service related or something in the regestry...

Any ideas?

Well, usually a simple restart of BOINC Manager solves this problem. AFAIK there
are no registry entries that are required for running boinc.exe. It just has to be in the same directory as the manager (which I guess it is).

If you are running BOINC as service, you should check if the password for the executing account is set correctly since Windows is "forgetting" it rarely or if you of course changed your login password for Windows. Simply move to the Administrative Tools (under Sys config) and start Services. In the windows look for BOINC and check it's state. If it's not running, start it. If it's then popping up an error, tell us - otherwise look into the Event manager for error messages according to BOINC.

Usually no work is lost - everything is stored in your projects directory.

Well, you've checked your team page. You are the only user (not machine!) in that team, that's why there's only one member.

Your machines do not have anything to do with teams, only you as user.

Looking over the source code of BOINC it seems that you have the permissions to install it as a service, but you don't have the execution rights to start the service. The error message is indeed misspelled in the BOINC code. Did you install BOINC as a service as local administrative user?

Post:
Just to follow up, I hadn't any freezing WUs since I turned off the SETI screensaver, apparently it was the culprit.
Tho, actually I liked the screensaver. Are there plans/activities to fix those issues? Or are there alternative SETI/BOINC screensavers?

Well I think the Screensaver is fine - it's the OpenGL implementation of your graphics card that is the culprit. It seems to me that it isn't implemented well and I presume that Berkeley is using standard OpenGL methods to create the graphics.
