ok, not sure which WU's you checked but I have about a dozen machines, various versions of CPU's and several video cards. I think 3 of them have supported GPU's like the GTX260, GE Fource 8400 GS, and GTX 275. I can see a major jump in my WU graph but its still less then I expected. My GTX260 is in my computer ID Computer ID 4574758

I've read many posts talking about the different GPU's and several with issues, and even a post that showed a few GPU's and the RAC one can expect with it. Please, someone, create a post, a link, a page, a stats, or something that shows the BEST graphics cards to use with SETI (and/or BOINC) projects to acheive the highest RAC! I have a GTX260 installed but I dream of upgrading several of my machines with multiple GPU's each and I dont know what cards to buy? I dont want to wait a ton of money on graphics cards to find out they dont work (like the GTX 480, does that work yet?) A nice list of many popular video cards and thier RAC would be fantastic!!! a recommendation of the top 2-3 reliable cards would be great for now.

(PS I saw claims a GTX260 should get near 15k RAC, my RAC is more like 6500 and thats with several machiens, not just my GTX260)

not that bad, its 13k credits pending. Not that bad and its not really climbing. It grew to 13k and is hovering there.

My system in in my home office. The room has its own AC and I have 6 seperate 20 amp circuits in the room. Power and cooling are not an issue.

One thing I have noticed though. I installed the card and I am pumping out seti units by the bundle. One every 8-12 minutes but when I look at my stats my RAC is lower then it was before? I only installed the card in 1 machine and I am not gaining ground as fast? The graph of my progrsss appears to have slowed dramatically since the card was installed?

I had a choice of 600 watt or 800 watt, the price was reasonable ($89). I've had issues with intermitten usb and pc problems so I was changing the supply anyway. All my problems went away after the upgrade. When I took the old video card out I realized why. The card was mounted face down on a tower cabinet. When I took the old video card out he fan was hanging off the video card and even after shutting down the system the card was SOOOOOO hot!

Well, went out and bought a GTX260, installed it and wow. I was expecting to have to install optimized apps and such but it went to work right away and I am crunching work units in as little as 4 Minutes!!! (average is around 8 minutes). Paid only $179 for the GTX260 w/ 896MB GDDR3 and 216 cores and I still have to send in my $20 rebate to make it only $159!

The card is huge, and I did install a new 800Watt power supply as well (old one was 430 watt, just under the recommended size but more importantly it didnt have the two 6 pin power plugs for the video card power).

I may just install them in all my machines :)

ok, say price wasnt an issue. I want to install cards in all my machines for maximum BOINC stats. What would you choose then? All my machines can take large cards. I dont need to use it for anything else...

1) Almost all of my machines support PCI video (except maybe 2 or 3 support PCI-E?)
2) Most are lights out systems so set it and forget it scenerio is best
3) Can I set them up just for CUDA and use my MB video for video?
4) Running latest boinc. Will they detect and use the card automatically or do I need to do something?

I'm looking to start using a GPU as well. I have 8 computers running BOINC and want the best bang for my buck. Which NVIDIA card is recommended for the best RAC? Can I add a card or two to my machine just for BOINC and continue to use my MB video for general computer use or do the video cards have to be active with windows desktop on them to be used? Running various versions of windows PC's (XP, 2000, 2003, etc... all 32 bit)

I upgraded to 6.6.31 on several of my machines. Now one of them will only run seti (actually BOINC) when I am logged in. I checked the preference screens and the "activity" option and they are both set to always run. When I connect via "remote desktop" I have to X out leaving the session active or the work stops? Its running on a windows server 2003 web edition (my only one) all the others run Windows 2003 server and/or 2000/xp.

I am running 6.6.31. I dont have a program data folder anywhere on my machine. I do have a data folder under BOINC which is on my E: drive (I installed BOINC on my E: drives, there isnt much else installed on it so theres not much to look though to find it). In the data directory there is a project folder, seti, and I see the AP data files in there as well. When I copied the entire directory to another machine I got computation errors? Let me try it again.

yeah thats what I had moved, the entire boinc directory under "program files" but it gave me a computation error on the new machine... The WU is due today, I have 6 days of processing left, hope I make it!

I've seen several messages about running on a Cent-OS machine but I havent had much luck locating and installing the correct lient! Anyone know the yum repository I can find the boinc client in? I have 1/2 dozen machines with plenty of idle time and quad processors I would like to get online!

I dont know if I am getting old or just stupid, so please be specific :)

I tried copying the BOINC directory to antoher machine and then it got a computation error. Its still running on the original machine but its fairly clear it will be done about 6 days late.

What directory was I suppose to copy over?

How come I cant run BOINC on a windows Domain Controller? Previous versions worked (I ran it on my DC's for a very long time). Never had any issues but now when I install the latest version it tells me it cant run on a domain controller and wont install it? Thats a total of (12) 2.8 Ghz processors I cant run on anymore, there goes my numbers.

I have 500+ hours each invested in these WU already, can I move them to another machine to get them finished in time? All my other machines are quad 2.8G P4's. As it stands right now my machine is on target to deliver the WU on the 6th day after the deadline
