I only attach to projects that I am interested in. For me, and let me stress the -for me- part, I think some projects are more worthwhile than others, so I crunch them.

My AMD3400 not X2 does not vary more that about 500 seconds per wu. My dual Opteron 275's can vary as much as 1500-2000 seconds but not more than that.

I run Xandros linux on most of my distributed farm. About a month ago I moved a HD from an old motherboard with an old AMD 1800 to a new everything motherboard with an AMD X2 4400. It simply booted up and ran with no indication that anything had changed. Man I love linux.

My pair of Opteron 275's run around 38-45 minutes for each processor on windows XP64 and Crunch3r's client. Some a little under 38 minutes and once in a while one will run around 1 hr.

[Edit] I bought my componets from monarchcomputer.com
The motherboard is a Tyan K8WE Thunder. Tyan now has a couple of K8WE's

Crunch3rs linux version is just under 3 times faster that the standard version. It's still not quite as fast as the windows version. My Opteron 275s on XP64 are a bit faster than my X2 4400 on linux but not by very much. This evening I'll have to send a few $$ to Crunch3r to help pay for his compiler.

Is there anything special I have to do to run Crunch3r's linux client. I down load the file, untared it and put all three files in the BOINC folder. When I try to start it nothing happens and the stderr.txt file has the following:
Can't open init data file - running in standalone mode
SETI@home error -5 Can't open file
(work_unit.sah) in read_wu_state() errno=2

File: worker.cpp
Line: 120

How are the optmized clients going to work when the "enhanced seti client is released"

They will not work at all. The app_info.xml file will need to be deleted before any new work will be downloaded.

Thanks. That was my understanding. Since it was mentioned on the beta site that the enhanced client was in the final testing phase and just about ready to be released in the wild, I think I'll wait before upgrading to one of the enhanced clients.
Of course, the way things go here at S@H "just about" could be another 6 months or so.

Yeah, I'm a Linux guy...and have a few windows machines....I don't know squat about Winders. It's my winders machines I am having trouble with.

Thanks everyone! I will look into this when I get home tonight from work.

It won't help with the Windows boxes but, a tip for the Linux ones:

The processor flag for SSE3 is not "sse3" but "pni" (Prescott New Instructions). ;)

Well I'll be damn. so it is.

The Regedit method 1 fixed all four of my windows 'puters. It works on both XP64 bit and XP Pro 32 bit.

Thanks for all your work.

All four of my windows XP pc's and one linux pc cannot report completed wu's or get new work from S@H only. They all were working and no changes have been made. The one XP 32 bit pc is running Boinc V4.45, one of the xp64 bit is running Boinc 4.45, one XP 64 bit is running 5.2.2 and the other XP 64 bit is running Boinc 5.2.6. None are running an enhanced client. All the linux pc's are running Boinc 5.2.13.The ones running XP 64 bit are only using the windows firewall. The XP 32 bit is running zone alarm pro. I'm only having trouble connecting to S@H. All the other projects are running just fine. Something has changed at Berkeley. There are two many other people reporting a problem connecting to S@H.

It's probably not worth running the Beta project now if you aren't already. If I read the beta thread correctly the beta app is just ready to be released in the wild.
