I am currently investigating using Ubuntu to run Boinc/Seti@Home. I have one computer running Ubuntu 18.04 and it is doing well on SETI. One of the reasons for switching from Windows is that Ubuntu could be running Tasks faster. Early results suggest that there is no increase in speed - maybe some lose in speed.

I am in need of the CUDA app some times referred to as the "Special Sauce." How do I get it? Can anybody help me?

I guess if Eric can stumble grammatically so can I.

Oumuamua
Dr. Lawn, welcome to the SETI Family and thank you for an informative and entertaining article.

I gather from you writing that we had an oblate spheriod of determined size and trajectory but of undetermined density, orientation, source, intelligent contol or destination tumbling through our solar system. About the only thing we know for certain is that it came, we saw it, it is leaving and if it is a scout it is not a Boy Scout. A Boy Scout would never display that lack of truth we see here.

As for its SETI association, I don't see it's gaining speed as it leaves the area as being caused by intelligent control. Once past the sun it began to slow down in response to drag (if any) and the pull of the sun's gravity. It's rate of slowing was decreased by the propulsive force of solar radiation and maybe the solar wind. At some point the energy of gravitations attraction was overcome by radiant and wind energy. Oumaumau began to accelerate. No intelligent being intervention required (unless she was late for lunch).

Skeptics always want the last word.

You provided the answer to my problem. You can't get to the SETI Project Preferences through the normal Preferences route, you have to go in using the URL you provided. Who knew! Thanks loads.

Yes, I had that but I was still not getting ATI tasks. I never realized that there are SETI Preferences. When I checked these preferences I found you have to select which GPUs are enabled. Once I clicked the right box the ATI Gpu came alive. Thanks for your input.

I recently installed a Radeon RX 480 in a computer which already housed two NVIDIA GTX 970 GPUs. BOINC recognized the new GPU but won't send work for it. I get a log message; 3/5/2018 1:26:44 PM | SETI@home | Tasks for AMD/ATI GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them. I don't know what they are talking about so, I can't find any preference saying I don't want work. Maybe, somebody knows what I can do about this situation.
