In fact, I would have thought that an overflow would create an automatic resend of work to the next PC/GPU.

The difficulty with that: there is fully legal genuine overflows just because of data patterns, not because of some failure in data processing. Sending such overflows on other hosts will just confirm such overflow and this can be quite infinite process.

What we need is to distinguish probably valid overflows from probably false ones before false ones reach the validator.
Hence some common patterns should be found by human volunteers then that patterns can be coded as heuristics by app developer (me in case of OpenCl for example) and then app will be able to do "CRC" checking on own results to not report suspicious ones to validator.

One current heuristics I'm going to implement is: if tasks overflowed only with autocorrs then it's highly probable that it's false overflow. Hence abort such result.
This will block most of such host results from reaching validator.

This will not work if there is 1 spike for example and 29 autocorrs.
So, next advance in heuristic could be: abort all overflows where autocorr number >= X. Let's find such X. If it will be too low app will abort genuine overflows also, if too high - some flase overflows will pass still.
isn't that the reason to sent these WU's out a max of 10 times with errors on return. the rule is already there make sure the bad WU's aren't part of the good data. Why not use what is already setup instead of assuming a WU is bad because just 2 CPU/GPUs send in bad results.

the chat system in Steam is nothing much more than an IRC chat. Unless you or BOINC have problems with IRC I doubt that is the problem

I agree that false overflows should never validate. In fact, I would have thought that an overflow would create an automatic resend of work to the next PC/GPU. Overflows and errors should never be allowed to validate.

On the people that we see rapid errors from, no all are anonymous. Most are active unhidden users that a PM should suffice in getting them to act on their misbehaving PC.

If you are using the lunatics apps and only have the AP WU's setup you won't be able to get MB WU's until you reinstall the lunatics apps and include the MB in your GPU processing

just wondering of the name for the AP app is correct. Did they change the linux app naming to have the version name in the middle of the name or is this a copying error and it should be at the end or at least an underscore between the app number and the r version

ap_6.07r1844_sse2_clATI_linux64 what he has
ap_6.07_r1844_sse2_clATI_linux64 shouldn't it look like that or
ap_6.07_sse2_clATI_linux64_r1844

I've encountered several folks like this. Typically a kind PM to them works wonders. I'd like to think things can be solved a bit quieter than public display of runaway PC/GPU's

I'll repeat what has already been said. BOINC will use your CPU 20% of the time. BOINC will max out the usage per hour not 20% at all time. So you are not getting any benefit from reduced usage as you might think would happen. You'll want to use an after market Heatsinkfan(HSF) combo that quite honestly only run around $40. That certainly will reduce the heat and allow you to run more work without burning up your CPU

please read this thread

that thread says your WU may be corrupted.

I'm looking at the uploader error as being the problem

I used to worry about running my systems without a UPS. I can honestly say I haven't had a UPS for at least 4 years and nothing has happened to my systems with a power failure. windows XP and 7 are very good at saving themselves in case of a power interruption. Unlike older versions corruption is unlikely in the advent of a power failure.

Also of note, Parts are actually not that expensive to replace compared to actually purchasing a UPS that can handle a high end PC. The only major part I'd worry about is the HDD and it might fail if the spin down occurs as it is writing. 0therwise, I've not had 1 hardware problem with a poweroutage

The Seti team is attempting to limit abuse by bots and other tards that flood forums with ads and other garbage. Limiting users with no RAC to the Q&A is one way to limit access to the main forums from nefarious individuals. It also encourages users of the forum to remain ever so slightly active so they can have the privilege to post on the main forums.

That's right it is a privilege to first post here and second to do the work and be allowed to chat about other topics on the other forum.

Don't know about anyone else, but to me a tomato should be nice and red......

What next? Pink Apples and Green Oranges?

You mean oranges that are still their natural colour?

that looks like Ugli fruit or Jamaican Tangelo which has a natural green color when ripe. that is not an orange as we'd call an orange an orange

We keep adding to our debt, we keep raising taxes, we keep saying we need to destroy the rich and we keep wondering why our welfare rolls keep increasing, our food stamp rolls keep increasing and the number of jobs keeps decreasing. What's the definition of insanity again?

An uncompromising minority in Congress, Unfortunately you have to raise taxes after you've gutted them, Nobody needs to destroy the rich, they'll do that on their own, though it would be nice to see hereditary wealth taken out of our system(see English Lords). one can only wonder how our welfare rolls are increasing as the wealthy see fit to send all decent paying manufacturing jobs overseas. The poor have little recourse(please no diatribe about bootstraps and pulling oneslef up). Food stamps are welfare so you hit the same note twice but I agree that job creation is important and business might consider it beneficial to employ and pay people at a decent wage so their employees might someday purchase the goods they make.
Definition- Republican party. Keep bringing up the same bad ideas and expecting different results. Oh and I am still waiting for the conservative alternative to ACA.

BTW the 3rd party GPU HSF doesnt fit just right. the screw down heat sink screw holes don't align correctly. If I had a workshop I'd have just drill new holes. As it was I had plenty of extra smaller Heat sinks that I just lined up to cover it.

I run 4 WU's at a time now with no real slow downs

Speaking as an outside observer, I feel it might be a good thing if conservative Americans were targeted by the police becuase of who they are, instead of what they did or didn't do. This would give them some insight into how it feels to be a black or hispanic American.

Extremely OFFENSIVE Comment Above and Extremely RACIST.

All HuWoMans are Fed The ShitPie of Life in One Way or Another.

I Don't Need to put myself in anyone else's shoes to Know, Life Is a mO fO.

I didn't realize that rich old white people are a race unto themselves. Hardly a racist comment more of an overview of the police state actually picking on another minority other than the ones that have color to their skin.
The only way this could possibly be construed as racist is if you believe the police don't target non whites for searches and non-violation stops such as those in NYC that are clearly meant to harass those that the white police think need harassing.
