I want to connect to the LHC and ATLAS projects. Also, I'm a writer and want to use my preferred word processor, WordPerfect.

I've downloaded it. Do you know how to configure it?

Success! Everything's up and running. Thanks for your help.

Do you know how to download and run Virtualbox?

Thank you for helping.

I put this line into the terminal:

sudo aptitude install boinc-client boinc-manager

but the response was "sudo: aptitude: command not found"

What the hell, people? What good IS this board if I ask for help and everybody ignores me?

At last count, nearly 100 people have viewed this question, and done nothing further. Is this The Observer Effect? Do all these 100 people just assume somebody else is going to help me?

How did you install SETI@Home on Ubuntu?

I asked this in a separate thread, and everybody ignored it.

I'm using Ubuntu Mate.

I just upgraded to Ubuntu Mate. What text do I type in the terminal to download the latest version of BOINC? Tried going to the homepage download screen, but I keep getting an error stating that the file can't be opened.

I'm getting an error message from BOINC Manager saying: "You app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@Home v8."

The main download page still has version 7.2.42 for my Linux Mint.

(PLEASE keep in mind that I'm not computer literate at all, so I *beg* you to please keep the technobabble to a minimum. My techie friends never have Windows discs handy, so they first gave me Ubuntu, then Linux Mint, which has complicated my life immensely.)

Well, I put that login into the terminal, and it downloaded a Rosetta work unit, but again, it froze halfway through.

I'm running version 7.2.42.
My techie friend installed it more than likely through Linux Mint downloads rather than from the Berkeley page. Don't know what "repository" means. Please assume that I'm not computer literate, which would be a correct assumption.
I have no idea if it's running or how to find out. Linux doesn't do visuals with BOINC. My BOINC manager has shown no progress for longer than a month.
The only way I've tried to remedy this is by asking the tech staff via this thread. Makes me wonder why nobody asked me to clarify until I got cranky about it. Was everybody just willing me telepathically?
I'm not logging in remotely.
Don't know what the BOINCCMD tool is, but I've clicked on that link. For host and password, do I use my computer name and password, or my username and password for this site?
Don't know how to be more eloquent about something I know virtually nothing about. As I said, I'm not computer literate.

I am talking about the Statistics tab, and the fact that my BOINC manager is completely frozen to begin with. How do I get it out of its frozen state? No progress whatsoever is being made.

Maybe I ought to switch back to PC if it's going to take longer than a month to answer a question... :(

Done. Thanks for your help.

I've noticed that the dates on my statistics only go to December 14th. I don't know what to make of it.

I'm running six projects on my BOINC, but at the moment, it's only running Climate Prediction and SETI@home, and they appear to be frozen.

CP has been stuck at 9.419% and SETI at 98.183% for at least the last week.

Should I be worried?

I should probably add that I have just gotten a new desktop that runs Ubuntu Mint.

OK, if I can't remote-operate from another computer, how do I make the BOINC manager appear, or how do I attach to another project without it?
