Cannot get work units
(Message 705662)
Posted 30 Jan 2008 by Jakob Creutzfeld Post: 01/29/2008 06:16:56 PM|SETI@home|Message from server: (reached daily quota of 4 results) Hi Patrick, I've marked the reason for your issue above ("reached daily quota of 4 results"). For whatever reason the SETI server thought it has to cancel some dozens work units you had already on your host (see here). This probably led to a reduction of your daily quota (what it shouldn't do). The daily quota will be reduced by one with each unsuccessful computed work unit, but will be doubled with each successful returned result. So this should be fixed in the next hours, as soon as your host has crunched some more work units. HTH Andy [Edit] Ohhh, Ageless was faster, again...[/edit] |

Posted 27 Jan 2008 by Jakob Creutzfeld Post: Hi Rick, two things worth to check: - Make sure you do not use localised preferences, they do override you web settings (to check this, open BOINC manager -> advanced view -> Advanced -> Preferences and click the "Clear"-button to revert to the web based preferences), - Make sure all of your hosts are set to the same venue. There are four different venues possible (default, home, work and school) which each having their own set of preferences/settings. HTH Andy |

(Message 704010)
Posted 25 Jan 2008 by Jakob Creutzfeld Post: And since the 2.2B overclaims credit, the Crunch3r Apps are the ones to go for. Ohhh...:-o - stupid me (haven't looked in the opt app thread for a long time, since I'm using 2.4V-GFX for some months now - blame me). So V2.4 is the way to go. (and I'll be quiet now... ;-)) Thanks for clarifying, Richard! Regards Andy [Edit] Actually, from the top off my head I thought 2.2B was already the multibeam app... hmmmm, probably a memory leak at offset 0x00CF003B...[/Edit] |

Yup. But we're off topic... @cerncerncern, as mentioned the science app you are using is an old version. Either use at least one of the 2.2B versions from Simon's site (without graphics, the SSE2/SSE3 version should work) or crunch3r's version (also SSE2 or SSE3, they are newer, with variable multiplier and graphics). Posted 24 Jan 2008 by Jakob Creutzfeld Post: Oh, and by the way: You are using an old science application version (V1.3), which is obsolete now. If you want the newest release (and with graphics... :-)) you should install crunch3r's optimised apps.

Ayudaaaaaaa Hi Marcela, either remove/reinstall it over the top of the existing installation (your will not lose work by doing so) or make a shortcut to boincmgr.exe in your autostart group (start -> programs -> autostart), both should work.

(Message 702838)
Posted 22 Jan 2008 by Jakob Creutzfeld Post: Thanks you for the help. Now, I can work in some projects, but in SETI can't work still. Nevertheless, I can work in DepSpid, Cosmology@home, Milkway@home and few more. Appreciate all the help possible. Thanks. Hi Relampague, I found that almost every work unit exited with error code -177, which means "not enough memory". Here's a snippet from one of your returned results: <core_client_version>5.10.30</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> Maximum memory exceeded </message> ]]> You should check your memory settings (either in your computing preferences on the web site here or in your BOINC manager -> extras -> preferences (which overwrites the web based preferences), depending on the type of control set you use) and raise the amounts for memory usage a bit more, say to 70% and/or more. Gesamtzeit eines Projektes
(Message 702097)
Posted 20 Jan 2008 by Jakob Creutzfeld Post: Hallo!

(Message 698441)
Posted 8 Jan 2008 by Jakob Creutzfeld Post: It's worse than just not counting flops, it's not registering any CPU time even though the task runs, completes normally and is valid scientifically. Yeah, only a totally outdated client version can (or cannot) do that! LOL To be honest: CC version 3.18 is quite old... weren't there any plans to abandon such old CC's, i.e. by not sending any more work to them? Andy |

Hi Michael and welcome back to SETI, yes they can be transferred, see here: Claim your SETI@home Classic workunits.. Keep in mind that the classic credits are not compatible with the BOINC credit system, so the classic credits are listed as a separate entry in your account summary. HTH Andy |

Posted 19 Dec 2007 by Jakob Creutzfeld Post: My next move would be to try to "ping" the Berkley address from the Cmd prompt... Ok... Hi Holger, to "Ping" the berkeley servers do the following: - Click "Start" -> "Ausführen...", enter "cmd" in the dialog filed and click < OK > (this opens the DOS Box). Type "ping setiathome.berkeley.edu" (without quotations) end press Enter. You should receive something like this: Ping setiathome.SSL.berkeley.edu [128.32.18.171] mit 32 Bytes Daten: You should receive: Antwort von 128.32.18.171: Bytes=32 Zeit=199ms TTL=44 Antwort von 128.32.18.171: Bytes=32 Zeit=203ms TTL=44 Antwort von 128.32.18.171: Bytes=32 Zeit=203ms TTL=44 Antwort von 128.32.18.171: Bytes=32 Zeit=203ms TTL=44 Ping-Statistik für 128.32.18.171: Pakete: Gesendet = 4, Empfangen = 4, Verloren = 0 (0% Verlust) If you receive something different, please report it here. I suspect that Berkeley has changed it's IP adress (or ISP) and the new paths to Berkeley are not published fast enough for all DNS servers. Further suggestions/ideas, anyone? Andy |
