GPU missing after running PrecisionX16
(Message 1718869)
Posted 27 Aug 2015 by Michael Banta Post: wow. I let windows reinstall the driver(instead of using the one from Nvidia's website) and the GPU has returned! Thanks for the responses! |

GPU missing after running PrecisionX16
(Message 1718848)
Posted 27 Aug 2015 by Michael Banta Post: So I ran EVGA PrecisionX16 program just to tweak some things. Now seti@home says the GPU is missing. Everything seems to work fine though. Computers boots, programs run, videos play nice and smooth. I have a GTX 780. I reinstalled the driver, reinstalled seti@home, reboots multiple times. WCG and rosetta@home run fine(though they are not using the GPU. Any ideas? Thanks Mike |

Posted 22 Jan 2014 by Michael Banta Post: Every since I disabled the built-in Intel GPU, this 780 has really kicked into gear. My Avg. work done has gone from 18,000 to over 31,000 with no other changes. Well I did turn the CPU fan to full blast also, but as someone else pointed out, the fan speed should have increased anyway as needed. Also, is 'Ave. work done' the same thing as RAC? |

My box is sitting on my bedroom floor with multiple fans inside it. Must get better cooling. I would love to hear more about peoples setups. Probably should start a new thread for that eh? Thanks! Posted 18 Jan 2014 by Michael Banta Post: I'm starting to see that I need to add water cooling to my box. Right now it is winter time here and the house is cool. I don't want to kill any components with heat. Is there water cooling for the GPU also (say the 780)? Or is cooling just for the processor? |

Haswell CPU Question
(Message 1464761)
Posted 15 Jan 2014 by Michael Banta Post: First off I'd like to say I'm an idiot. I was looking at my GPU temp not my CPU temp with I said 50 deg... I rebooted to check my BIOS. Under Peripherals I have: Inter Processor Graphics which I have disabled. Under Performance, I have: CPU Fan speed (full speed) Also, I used Precision x to set my GPU fan to a higher than normal speed. Don't know if you have these exact options... |

Haswell CPU Question
(Message 1464429)
Posted 14 Jan 2014 by Michael Banta Post: Hi there. I have a Haswell also and I'm running at 49deg C. I have a GTX 780 running full blast and 5/8 cores are crunching on the CPUs. I had problems until I went into the system BIOS and disabled the built-in Intel GPU and turned the CPU fan up to full blast. Now my box is kicking butt. Mike |

Intel hd 4600 ???
(Message 1463378)
Posted 12 Jan 2014 by Michael Banta Post: Just had a similar discussion... I also have the i7 4770k with built-in Intel GPU. I found that having the Intel GPU active in the BIOS, caused my system in general and the GTX 780 to run poorly. Not until I disabled it did my 780 really start to crunch like it should. My problem was due to heat though. I don't have a water cooler (yet) for the CPU and I hear the Haswells run hot. Turning up the CPU fan in the BIOS seemed to help also. So if you do run the built-in GPU keep this in mind if you see poor performance with your system. My system becomes less aggressive as the heat rises. Built in fail safes I assume. Mike |
