Message 1955354 - Posted: 14 Sep 2018, 17:34:35 UTC - in response to Message 1955340.

Dummy plug? Whats that? Where can I get them? Do I need one for each video card?

Thanks!

Amazon sells them

Can't hurt to try it.

Windows Remote Desktop is a very poor tool for logging into and managing remote desktops as when one logs into a remote computer it kicks out "proper" drivers and replaces them with a peculiar set. Additionally it doesn't play well with Linux.
To overcome this I use a (free) alternative. Since I'm away from home working on a phone which doesn't have the client loaded and I can't recall which one it is, but is one that a few folks over in number crunching suggested was "worth a try". If you haven't found it by the time I get home in a couple of days I'll be able to tell you then.

VNC or one of its derivatives ie RealVNC, TightVNC, or UltraVNC possibly?

The miner array kept crashing so I tried to lower the CPU % and % of time but it kept crashing.
I unplugged one of the GPUs and set the CPU%'s both back to 100 and its still going.

Crossed fingers...

My mother and brothers need help.
They fled hurricane Florence two days ago.
Please help if you can...

Total of 104 threads and 11 GPU's today!

Not bad.

I was wondering, is there any way to control which GPU gets used for crunching in a multi GPU system?
I wish the computing preferences was presented in number of threads instead of %.

I did a globle search on the "number crunching" message area and got back.

Google Chrome's remote desktop (you need Chrome or perhaps Chromiumn installed).

Team Viewer

And yes VNC.

One would have to run multipple instances of BOINC, which is not exactly simple to set up or configure :-(

Being able to sett number of concurrent tasks by number instead of % would certainly make life simple.....

If you are still getting significant CUDAxx gpu tasks you can dig around in your hidden Seti at home folder and look for the cudaxx*.cfg.sample files and copy paste those into the cudaxx.cfg files. Don't forget to remove the "comment out" characters. ;) You don't need the explanation, just the last 4 (I think) lines.

It might speed up the cuda processing a little bit.

You could also try putting in "entry level" Nvidia card parameters in the MB*SOG.txt command file. I doubt it will slow you gpu's down and it might speed them up a little.

Yes but it's very cumbersome and takes a lot of time to figure out. Plus once the machine turns off or reboots, it reorders the GPU numbering and you have to go thru the entire process all over again to try and figure out which GPU is which. For time I split work between similar GPUs with a much simplified method. I told the machine that no matter what GPU was given spot #1 and #3 to ignore seti and not crunch. As such I could have GPU #0 and #2 crunch Seti which left GPU#1 and #3 crunched Einstein@home. So yes, it is possible.

What is the current ETA on the pallet of Gtx 1050Ti's?

I'd be seriously pissed off if the human race was pumping billions of tons of greenhouse gasses into my upper atmosphere too! They deserve everything that happens. We should be pumping billions of dollars into research and machines to extract and bury that carbon or finding another suitable home...

At this rate, my children's grandchildren wont be able to live on this planet.

By the way, Windows 10 does NOT allow a PC that has a password to startup an application. That config requires a user to log in. It also does NOT allow a PC WITHOUT a password to run remote desktop and remote desktop messes with video drivers as Tom pointed out. TightVNC seems to be the answer and hopefully will allow me to tend to my farm remotely soon.

I added another Dell Precision M6600 to the farm. I'm buying them cheap, broken off eCrap and refurbishing them to run Seti.

Its getting chilly at my house in the mountains so no more need for AC during the day. I have the entire farm running today.

The GPU's from China are still sitting in Hong Kong thanks to the typhoon.

Maybe payday I can buy a second batch that is warehoused locally to me.

We shall see.

BooHoo :-(
Yet another reason not to fuel M$'s coffers.
TightVNC - yes, that's the one I use, very handy tool, especially on my heterogeneous network

(BTW, it wan't Tom that pointed out that Windows RDP kicks one's real drivers into touch, it was me.)

As to stuff stuck in HK, well it was a good blow, I hope they liberate them soon, the airport is back up and running, as are most of the docks.

I appologize for warping the past :) But I am glad you caught it, or I would have need to do it. I am also glad you have experience with sucessfully RDPing with Seti. Or Dave and I would be running around like the well known.... "Huh?????" person.
