From tomorrow's edition of "New Scientist", a well-respected British popular science magazine. (but admittedly from the jokey bit at the back...):

Lazy bones
DO YOU struggle to get out of bed in the morning? Spare a thought for Homo erectus, an early species of human that researchers claim went extinct through laziness. (It’s lucky you can’t libel the dead – or extinct species.) Ceri Shipton of the Australian National University found stone tools were typically made by H. erectus with whatever rocks were to hand, despite there being better stone available nearby.

From this, Shipton reaches the conclusion that H. erectus followed “a least-effort” strategy. Twinned with an inability to adapt to a changing environment, this sealed their demise. “The environment around them was changing, but they were doing the exact same things with their tools,” says Shipton. Thank goodness Homo sapiens would never make such a foolish mistake…

Then there is this https://www.upi.com/Laziness-is-an-effective-survival-skill-evolutionary-biologists-find/4141534959466/
Laziness is an effective survival skill, evolutionary biologists find
"Maybe in the long term the best evolutionary strategy for animals is to be lassitudinous and sluggish," said evolutionary biologist Bruce Lieberman.
Aug. 22 (UPI) -- New analysis of species' metabolic rates during the mid-Pliocene epoch suggests higher energy expenditures put animals at greater risk of extinction.

The findings, published this week in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, suggest laziness is an effective longterm survival strategy.

When scientists tracked the fates of mid-Pliocene species over the last 5 million years, they found species with higher metabolic rates were more likely to have disappeared.

We’ll notify you in advance of any construction planned to take place in your street – ensuring you have the details you need of exactly what is happening and when.
Oops

Just spoke to the on site manager, nope no notification, neither has anyone else in the area. Did learn from an engineer after the manager departed, the gang working on the next street up just got dismissed as they ripped up all the Virgin cable. :-(

Hmm, think Vodafone needs to their game plan.

Edit: No marketing as yet or pricing structure. Yep, definitely the largest provider of B/S - New boys on the block.

Why Sweden and China have fallen out so badly:)
It all started earlier in September when Chinese tourists were removed from a hotel by Swedish police, a move which was heavily condemned by the Chinese government.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-45635646
But matters were made worse when a satirical Swedish television show joked about Chinese people eating dogs and defecating in public.

I just read that very same article the other day:)
But is it political?
Anyway.
According to the state tourist board, 3.65m people visited London Bridge in 2017 - making it Arizona’s third most popular attraction after the Grand Canyon and the Glen Canyon national parks.
And although the whole project cost about $12m, McCulloch is said to have recouped his costs before the last brick had even been laid in its new home.

Globe-trotting paedophile Derek Godfrey jailed for US offences.

Godfrey, the globetrotting paedophile gymnastics coach who was once jailed in Australia on child pornography charges, is heading back to prison.

Godfrey was sentenced in the US District Court in Sacramento on Thursday to eight years’ jail for child pornography charges dating back to 2006 in the Californian capital.

The 48-year-old has admitted to being a child pornography addict with “a preference” for nine to 12-year-old girls and over the years caught the attention of authorities in Australia, Europe and the US.
It's just a shame that the cell keys can't be thrown away permanently for these low lives.

Average life expectancy of a pedophile in California penal system is measured in days, however he won't be in the penal system but a sex offender training academy called a mental hospital, which he won't be able to graduate from.

OOPS

Simon Calder, travel editor of the Independent, said the question on the Esta visa waiver form was "completely pointless".
"Nobody who was engaged in terrorism, espionage or genocide would ever tick 'yes'," he said.
One has to admit that question is pretty stupid.
Well it is America, so what more can one expect. :-)

Sounds like Australia is developing a Wall Street.

Actually it's amazing how many who have fronted the Royal Commission so far that have had a Yankee accent, I've pointed Clyde to this a few times (but I doubt that he even looked).

Many heads have joined the unemployed, but I'll be interested in the fines and jail time that will come at the end of it all.

[edit] BTW, this was only a preliminary report as there will be a lot more to come yet. ;-)

It has won 10 international awards and Ford has claimed it has set the benchmark for small, fuel-efficient engines.
So much for fiduciary duty

This is just v2.0. Remember the Ford Pinto?!
fiduciary duty wrote:
So, Ford did a cost-benefit analysis. To fix the problems would cost an additional $11 per vehicle, and Ford weighed that $11 against the projected injury claims for severe burns, repair-costs claim rate and mortality. The total would have been approximately $113 million (including the engineering, the production delays and the parts for tens of thousands of cars), but damage payouts would cost only about $49 million, according to Ford's math. So the fix was nixed, and the Pinto went into production in September 1970.
