G'morning everyone, from a foggy and frosty P.O.E.T.S. Day down under.

I hope that everyone is enjoying their beers, or whatever, and I'll join you all in 4hrs time, but for the moment I'll have another coffee.

Cheers.

G'morning everyone, from a sunny winter's morning in the highlands down under.

Today is not my usual Hump Day domestic clean up day as my baby sister is due here this afternoon so some extra effort is involved this time to accommodate her.

Tomorrow the both of us will be heading down to the hospital in Armidale to see an old family friend who is not long for this world, but at 87 he has had a very good life.

Anyhow I better finish this coffee break and get back into it so I can relax with a beer or 3 in 90mins-2hrs time.

Have a good day.

Cheers.

I hope you had a good visit with your friend, Wiggo.

Today at the grocery I picked up a 6-pack(six 12 ounce bottles for $8) of a beer I've never tried before, called Vine Street Junction, made by a company called Iron Line Brewing(not local). I wanted something similar to the hoppy ale I'd gotten a growler(64 ounces for $12) of last week at Gravely Brewing, here in Louisville. I just started noticing beers stating their IBU's. Maybe they've always done it, and I just haven't been paying attention. When I was at the Gravely microbrewery last week, and bought their "Shine On" brew, they said it's IBU was 50. This IPA says it's a 65 and has the same sort of clover-like aroma and taste. I like it about the same as the more expensive one.

Wiggo, what IBU would you say your beers are?

Here's my beer of the day:

Hope you enjoyed your beer!!

I have seen this beer around but only today decided to sample it.

It is a fruity IPA of the style I have come to like. Apparently due to the "new world hops"

I had tended to steer clear of IPA's as years ago they had a reputation for being a bit weak and tasteless.

Now however they seem to be getting the "craft beer" treatment and I have to admit I am a fan

My local pub serves draught Punk IPA

Which is currently my favourite draught and I have to admit popping in a couple of times a week for a quick pint.

P.S. First picture with my new camera which I have brought for my upcoming sojourn to the US.

Yes, I'm a new fan of IPA's, too. They definitely are very effervescent. :~)

G'morning everyone, from another typical winter's morning in the highlands down under.

Gordon, going from what I've found, Tooheys New has an estimated IBU of around 138 so my homebrew will be about the same (yes I love a chilly bitter beer) and our visit to see our old friend yesterday went excellently (he was very happy to see us).

Anyhow, now that my sister is on her way home, I've a few things to catch up on so that I can enjoy a few Good Friday beers later on.

Cheers.

Wow! I just started paying attention to IBU's, but that's higher than anything I've seen. Very interesting.

I really don't know how accurate that is Gordon as I havn't seen any actual IBU ratings on our bottles over here yet.

Cheers.

I've always liked the Franziskaner, on the far left in that video.

G'morning everyone, from another typical winter start in the highlands down under.

Well after office hours are finished here this morning I'll be off to string line out a mate's floor plan over his not so straight footings so that we can work out what his final dimensions will be for his house and where his piers will be placed on those footings to get them straight enough to put the bearers onto.

I think that the person who put those footings in and the council inspector who passed them must of both been pissed at the time because even blind Freddie can see that they are not in anyway straight (I do hate shoddy work and I hate it even more when I've got to make compromises to accommodate that type of shoddy work).

Anyhow, once that's done it will be Beer O'clock.

Cheers.

Do you think perhaps the ground has shifted?

If that was the case Gordon then it has shifted to a depth of 3' at least and some of them have moved the wrong way compared to the others, but as it's fairly flat level ground I doubt that would be the reason and I'll stick with the shoddy work theory (more likely it was the use of slack string lines, if string lines were even used, while boring the holes for those foundations).

I've dealt with worse (but not by much), though I do have a few inches to play with on both the foundation pads and the 4" square pier tops (which the steel bearers will be welded to) and so long as the bearers can run straight and true I'll be a happy camper, but we may lose an inch or 2 (maybe 3" at the worse) on the actual floor dimensions compared to the original plans to get it right.

I should have it all worked out in an hour or so anyway after I leave here to do it in 20mins and it should be warm enough outside by then to work comfortably (at least it is a sunny day).

Cheers.

More likely it was a few buck shifted from one pocket to the other.

Cheap shoddy amateurs are a much more likely choice in this case here and once I had the foundation pads all string lined out I called our local engineer to come and take a look at it tomorrow morning as I'm not so sure that the offsets involved in making the piers up to pull it all in square and sound might just be a bit too excessive to be suitable for our building codes, but that will be up to the engineer to make the call in the end.

Cheers.

Whilst perusing the "craft beer" section in a local shop I saw this.

11% ABV as strong as some wine!!

Not sure I would enjoy that.

Instead I settled for this.

Same brewery 5% less alcohol.

I like the can as well. Different.

I will report on the contents later.

Those are cool looking cans. I like the name on the first one, too. It would probably knock me out!

I can happily report the contents of the Green Path can were excellent.

A good fruity full bodied IPA, which I will be putting on my list for the future

Glad you enjoyed your beer, Bernie.

I found a website showcasing pictures of vending machines in Japan. This is a good one:
