Ever since I started 'crunching for Seti' in February, I've
noticed that at random times the project I'm crunching
switches to "AstroPulse' for no apparent reason at all.

There must be an explanation for this, or maybe it's an
Extra Terrestrial being that is responding to our efforts.

Any Ideas?

Any Ideas?

You've selected to do AstroPulse work in the Seti settings, so when you've got some, it processes it.

Edit- until recently, there has been very little AP work available. Over the last few weeks, the drought hasn't been nearly as severe as it was and AP work has been flowing pretty steadily.

I put an old rig here online last week and what you are probably seeing is the result of an Arecibo VLAR workunit being completed by your GPU tripping the estimated completion times of those AP's, but the more of those AP's that you complete with less than 10% blanking the less that that will happen.

"AstroPulse" is part of SETI@Home - broadly speaking we are doing two types of analysis:
"MultiBeam" - the ordinary SETI@Home activity
"Astropulse" - a different way of looking at the same data. This is not possible (just now) on about half of the data (that from the Breakthrough Listening Project).
If you are running the default applications, and have either the "Do AstroPulse" or "Do other work" tags set you will get the occasional AstroPulse bit of work, just sit back and enjoy the experience ;-)
