An off-duty cop met up with two other officers. One fatally shot her in the chest.
The cry rang out into the empty, bitterly cold streets of St. Louis just before 1 a.m. on Thursday. “Oh, my God!” a neighbor told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch she heard. “Somebody help!”

Neighbors peeked out from their two-story red-brick homes a few blocks from the banks of the Mississippi River and saw a sight too familiar in a city rattled with gun violence: Two men dragging a bleeding woman into a vehicle and then speeding away.

But then they noticed something odd. The vehicle was marked with the St. Louis Police Department logo. And the two men were cops.

In fact, the grievously wounded woman, who soon died at a hospital, was also a police officer: Katlyn Alix, a 24-year-old Army veteran with two years on the force. And St. Louis authorities now say that she was killed by one of the other cops in a baffling accidental shooting that has raised troubling questions for investigators.

Why were the two male officers, who were supposed to be patrolling another part of town, inside a home with Alix, who was off-duty? Why was one of those officers handling a revolver that reportedly wasn’t a service weapon?

And most importantly, how could a heavily trained cop accidentally fire the gun straight into Alix’s chest?

The two on-duty officers -- described only as 29-year-old white men -- met Alix at the apartment. Police have not said who lived there.
Quote from CNN.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police Commissioner John W. Hayden Jr. said Officer Katlyn Alix was shot in the chest shortly before 1 a.m. as she sat in the living room of a fellow officer's apartment in the city's Carondelet neighbourhood

Where was her husband?

They were apparently playing Russian Roulette.

I think many here on the boards will remember growing up & seeing police officers on traffic duties.

Not anymore, they much rather be parked up on a motorway layby with their radar guns

Absolutely honest police officers!

An unknown number of California Highway Patrol officers assigned to the agency's East Los Angeles office have been suspended for allegedly putting in for thousands of dollars of overtime for which they were not entitled, officials announced Friday.

4 "brave" men at work. Not police officers, but police rejects enforcing the law.

Pregnant woman dragged off train

Surprisingly, it's not in America.

I'm not surprised. This happened only last night in Lund, Sweden when "security" guards beats a young woman with a baton and wrestles down several people who ask the guards to calm down.
https://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/a/J1mppm/de-bad-vakterna-lugna-sig--da-blev-de-slagna
The clip shows how a young man first gets shoved down. According to the witness, the man called the guards for idiots because he thought they used too much violence.
"The woman who comes later had no connection with any of the other persons. She tells the guards that they should take it easy. Then one of the guards beats her with the baton on her leg", the witness says.
"Then it's another guy, I think he's in the company of the woman. He does nothing and stands still but gets shoved so that he falls to the ground".

btw. The pregnant woman mentioned in the Stockholm subway had a valid ticket .

That reminds me of a visit, as part of a Dedicated MIcros team, to a city center CCTV monitoring center run by G4S. Just before we entered the ops room, the G4S local boss said "Don't bother asking questions in here, if the brain cell count is higher than the number of bodies, the supervisor is in the room."

G4S doesn't operate in Sweden any longer. It's Nokas.
No better. More like vigilantes!
Try using the mobile phone to film the "security" guards in action...

And the police has not rejected enforcing the law in the pregnant woman case.
Police will now initiate two preliminary investigations - one about suspected misconduct, directed against guards acting. And one against the woman, for suspected violent resistance.

I like the term violent resistance. Saying to a guard "No I don't want to" is violent resistance.

The conservative block on SCOTUS would declare it so!

Surely, it can't be true? After all, it is the Union we're talking about.

Previously, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) said it was seeing too many cases of corruption and of officers abusing their positions of authority - sometimes for sexual gain.
5,966 officers and staff had not been properly vetted

To paraphrase Edward R Morrow's famous introduction:
THIS IS ENGLAND. :-)

Marine Vet Films Traffic Stop From His Porch; California Cop Gives Him a Concussion

On January 22, Adrian Burrell was at his home in Vallejo, California, when he saw his cousin outside with his hands in the air. The cousin, Michael Walton, was standing next to his motorcycle with his back to a police officer. "He can't hear you. He has his helmet on," Burrell told the officer, according to the account he later gave to KGO. At that point, he says, the cop told him to go back in his house.

Instead, Burrell, who is a filmmaker, opted to record the incident. Even if he hadn't been standing on his own private property, this would be within his rights. In California, citizens can film on-duty police officers as long as they aren't interfering in their work. In this case, Burrell tells The San Francisco Chronicle, he was on his porch—more than 20 feet away from what was going on.
...
"Get back," the officer tells Burrell. "No," he replies. (Burrell notes to the Chronicle that his back was already up against the side of his home.) The officer then walks toward Burrell, holstering his weapon as he does so. "You're interfering with me, my man?" he asks. "You're interfering, you're going to get one from the back of the car."

"That's fine," Burrell responds. The officer starts handcuffing Burrell, and tells him to "stop resisting."

"I'm not resisting you," Burrell says, as the officer threatens to take him down. "Stop fighting or you're going to go on the ground," the cop says.

It's hard to see what happens next, and the camera eventually goes dark. "He handcuffed me and threw me into this wall here," Burrell tells KGO. "Swung my body into that pole there, where I knocked my head. He took me to the car and detained me and told me I was going to jail." Burrell wrote on Facebook that he sufferred a concussion as a result of the officer's actions.

...

Burrell, who is black, suspects his race was a factor in the incident. "I'm not a lawyer," tells the Bay Area News Group. "I'm not a detective. I'm just somebody who went with something and am trying to figure it out, and understand that historically these things happen to people who look like me and in communities like this."

Yes, there is excellent video corroboration...
