Message 1927848 - Posted: 2 Apr 2018, 23:04:49 UTC

A couple months ago, one of my computers was not showing any projects in BOINC Manager's Advanced View, and I knew that wasn't right because in Simple View it was showing as running SETI@home, and tasks were being reported as validated. To hopefully fix the situation, I selected, "No new tasks", and when the well went dry, I uninstalled and reinstalled BOINC. The project still does not show up in Advanced View, and now I'm getting Task Errors on the SETI site saying: Timed out - no response.

What is going to happen to these "Timed out - no response" tasks?

And why is this computer not processing the tasks?

What is going to happen to these "Timed out - no response" tasks?

They will be sent to another machine, and once they Validate, and they get the servers housekeeping working again (Deleting & purging), then those errors will clear from your system.

And why is this computer not processing the tasks?

The fact that you can't look at the Advanced view makes it very difficult to figure out just what was going on, but looking at that machine it appears you have a whole bunch of Ghosts (WUs the server allocated to you, but you never actually got them).
With your CPU & 1 GPU on that system, you should have a maximum of 200 WUs in progress (or less, depending on your cache settings). It's showing 571 In progress.

So what's happened (for whatever reason) is the Server has allocated you work when you've requested it, but you never actually received it. Since you never got it on your computer (even though it shows it there in your account), you aren't able to process it, and so when the Deadline date comes around it will time out, hence the Time out- no response on those errored WUs.

From what I can see it looks the same as someone an over zealous anti-virus (that will turn good work into ghosts), make sure that your 2 BOINC folder are excluded from any actions by your antivirus program (as it could also be stopping your apps from running).

Cheers.

Good point, Wiggo, and thanks, Grant. I'm puzzled why it happened on a computer that had been doing fine, but I guess that's just the way it goes. It is processing and finishing tasks now. ~I can see that in Advanced view, but not the project, itself, which is just really odd to me.

In your previous thread about the empty Projects tab I wrote

Open Regedit
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley\BOINC Manager\Projects
List all the values in the key and its subkeys (Account etc.) here

Once you have copied the values here exit Manager, remove the Projects key and restart Manager.

Haven't seen a reply yet.

Before you remove the Projects key please copy the values here. I would really like to see them.

I don't see a subkeys folder.

Subkeys means the keys under some key.

So Account, Avg. work done, Project, Resource share, Status, Team and Work done just below the Projects key that is highlighted in the screenshot.

Only two items show up for any of those subkeys...

Thanks. Now exit Manager through File->Exit (keep client running if you like), select Projects key in Regedit, press delete or select Edit->Delete and answer yes to the question after checking that you really have the right key selected. Then restart Manager.

Well, almost. If you redo the same steps for Projects (plural) you'll get the rest of the columns back too.
