Who doesn't have memories of looking at that wall clock in your classroom, waiting for it to be 3 p.m.
According to reports, schools in England are getting rid of old-fashioned clocks because kids don't know how to read them anymore.

As with learning to read. Learning to 'read' an analog clock should also be mandatory.

I was taught to read a old fashioned analog ticking clock.

Where did that smoke come from? What does the switch marked 120/240 do?

...With those simple chores done Pete expected the Hum Of Success™. What he got instead was “An audible pop and a distinct smell of burning.”

“The Unit completely dead, nothing on the 2-line LCD status screen, no lights, no disk noise, no nothing.”

“It was then that I noticed the small ‘120V-240V’ switch on the back, next to the on/off switch. Yes, in those days before near universal auto power switching supplies, you had to choose the correct voltage for the country

Well, me too, and I think I learned it at home, not at school, anyway. I can't imagine not knowing how to read a traditional clock.

Today is a little milestone for me. it was 5 years ago today that I went for my first "exercise" walk equipped with a pedometer.

Since then I have kept a record of every step I have taken. I try and walk "aerobically" ( 60 strides or more per minute) for at least 45 minutes daily.

Back then I had a simple pedometer, now I have a "fitness band" that records everything form heart-rate, stride length, GPS position (via my smartphone) and even tells me me how well I slept :-)

So in the last 5 years I have taken 16,329,761 steps, of which 12,316,406 were aerobic, this has taken me 111,305 minutes(1,855 hours or 77 days if non stop)

I have apparently burned approximately 992,500 calories (hmm, not sure it shows) and walked an estimated 9,700 miles .

In those 5 years I have missed my walk on 40 occasions, 24 of those were in 2014 when I was in hospital and the aftermath. The last two years I have just missed 1 day when my father was taken to hospital.

Oh yes and
"You slept for 6hr 59min last night. The quality of you sleep was 72 which is OK"

Isn't technology "wonderful" ;-) (Please note YMMV)

PS this is the info my "watch" records

Good job, Bernie. I admire your routine. My mother was a walker, too. So you're averaging about 9,000 steps a day if I did the math right? I don't do any specific routine, but I do usually carry a little Omron pedometer in my pocket just for curiosity sake, and some days when I'm really lazy and don't leave the house, my number of steps is only about 2,000.

Zookeepers charged after Kodiak bear rides shotgun to Dairy Queen
Canadian law enforcement is bearing down on a pair of zoo owners whose wild trip to the local Dairy Queen wasn't quite the Kodiak moment they'd hoped for.

Doug Bos and Debbie Rowland, who own the the Discovery Wildlife Park in Innisfail, Alberta, have been charged under the Wildlife Act after they took a one-year-old bear to an ice cream drive-thru and allowed staff to feed it.

The duo said they "forgot" to tell the authorities that they were planning to take Berkley the Kodiak bear for the jaunt, which – according to the Canadian press – they proceeded to film and post on social media.

The video captured the bear being hand-fed an ice cream cone from the front seat of one of the zoo's trucks, but was later removed after public outcry.

Elon Musk to offer free rides down his Boring tunnel.

Elon Musk isn't one for thinking small or cheap, so his solution to beating the traffic was neither. The Boring Company is building tunnels under LA as a way of bypassing traffic completely, and the first one is almost finished.

As Engadget reports, Musk posted a video of the "almost done" tunnel on Instagram along with the promise of offering free rides to the public in a few months. Of course, those free rides can only happen if the Boring Company manages to secure final regulatory approval for the tunnel. Seeing as LA let him build it, I doubt he will now be stopped from using it.
Now that might be fun for those lucky people.

Cheers.

Nan shocked by unwanted horse delivery after granddaughter orders pony online
The 13-year old girl had given her gran's address for delivery
A grandmother was surprised when a skinny and mite-covered horse was delivered at her house after her 13-year old granddaughter ordered in online.

The young colt was abandoned at the back of a house in Smallthorne, Stoke-on-Trent, after the girl ordered the horse from an online advert and gave her grandmother’s address for delivery.

The shocked nan, unsure what to do with the pony, contacted World Horse Welfare and it has since been transported to a private boarding stable.
