Quick explanation... When I have a lot of "normal" GPU WU's, I run the Lunatics X41zi app, when I have a lot of "Guppi" VLARs I run the opencl app. This is because on my Win XP, Core2 Quad machine, some "normal" units go into an endless loop when trying to crunch them with opencl. Also, when running x41, it releases 2 CPU cores for other duties. The app_info provided with the Lunatics opencl installer very thoughtfully has a Cuda50 entry, so there's no problem changing to the opencl app, but when going back to Lunatics there is no entry to make it recognise new WU's downloaded with the "opencl_nvidia_SoG" suffix, so they just get trashed. You can't assign two different Apps to the same task, so, that will never work. The best you could do is have two identical app_infos with one listing the OpenCL App with the same >version_num< & >plan_class< as the other app_info which would have the CUDA App assigned those Same numbers. When you wanted to switch Apps you would Stop BOINC and rename the app_info to use the one you wanted. The app_info.xml you didn't want to use would be named something like app_info.xmlCL or app_info.xmlCUDA. Once tasks are assigned to a certain >version_num< & >plan_class< you Can't change those numbers in the app_info.xml, you Must use the Same numbers with the other App. Another method would be to install Ubuntu 14.04 on the XP machine and use the BOINC All In One package with the CUDA 80 App. The CUDA 80 App would be over twice as fast on the Arecibo tasks and much faster on the VLARs. The net result would be to produce about Twice as much work as with Windows XP on the same hardware. |

That's what I'm trying to do !! But I need the correct entry to tell 41z to crunch WU's labelled as "opencl_nvidia_SoG", they're both V8 WU's, crunchable by either app, only the designation is different. There is an entry in the app_info supplied with SoG app installer that tells the SoG app to recognise WU's labelled "cuda50". I want to do the same thing but in the opposite direction. The code in my OP is my first attempt at an add in, but it doesn't work... Perhaps if someone could explain why ?? T.A. |
