A armed man has taken several people hostage in a supermarket in Trèbes, southern France. The police have been sent to the site. The French national task force GIGN is also on its way to the site. Earlier in the day a police was injured in the town of Carcassone nearby Trèbes.
Two people are reported to have been killed, according to police sources to several French media and news agencies.
There are conflicting information about how many people are kept hostage. According to the Reuters news agency, eight people are involved, while French media speak of two.
Prosecutors state, according to France Info, that the hostage owner claims to belong to the terrorist organization IS.
France's Prime Minister Edouard Philippe calls the incident for a "serious situation".

BBC - Several dead in Germany as van ploughs into crowd in Muenster

Several people have been been killed in the city of Muenster, in western Germany after a van drove into pedestrians.

The driver of the vehicle has killed himself, police said.

About 30 people are reported injured in the incident, which occurred near the Kiepenkerl statue in the old town.

Police asked people to avoid the city centre while they respond to the incident.

In December 2016, a lorry ploughed into a crowd at at Christmas market in the German capital, Berlin, killing 12 people.

There is a restaurant located in the vicinity of the Kiepenkerl statue and photographs posted on social media showed tables and chairs strewn at the scene.

According to the German Rheinische Post, It was a van that drove into a sitting group of people in the Altstadt, Münsters old town. The site of the deed is reported as the Kiepenkerl host house, located next to the statue of the same name, a popular tourist destination in the city.
