Message 1819058 - Posted: 23 Sep 2016, 3:02:23 UTC - in response to Message 1819053.

Seeing the pictures of the fallen and connecting it to sports is an absolute and complete disgrace to their memories.

Incorrect.

They fell to preserve freedom. That athlete & your statement dishonours that!

Yes, that athlete had the freedom to do what he did, but he did it in the wrong manner & the wrong place.

Those fallen also fell to give me that same freedom & I'm saying you're wrong.

B***s***. Read the article I linked, for one.
Two, how much do you want to bet few to one no one's thinking of the country or the military when they stand and sing the anthem. Just like not thinking about God when reciting/singing liturgy/hymns (particularly if in Latin, not understood).

So they fell to give you the freedom of speech while at the same time to quell the freedom of others - Is that what Yanks really think? Are they really full of bovine excrement?

BTW I've often attended sports stadiums & want to watch the game - not some greedy overpaid wally woofer making politic statements.

Next thing you know, you Borg will be demanding we pledge the flag and sing the anthem before a movie. Then, whenever 2 or more US citizens are gathered.

I am much less concerned about their last revolution than I am
about the next one. Like how soon, and how verbose it may be.

Well Trump solved that problem for you
Build the wall and send the bill to Trump and then they can go for it against each other and you lot can make and sell the weapons they will need to kill each other off and them you can move in take over as they won't be any Americans left :-)
So relax friend and watch the show

Trump doesn't know what a ladder is when he built that wall.
In fact he doesn't know how to stop immigrants in any means.
Who does?

Oops. There is BIG difference by immigrants and refugees!

The latter, which has nothing to do with the Nation. They're whipped into a frenzy. Just like Winston and Julia were against whomever Big Brother said they were currently at war against.

So using a sports arena to incite war & political statements is okay then.

Gordon Bennett, what are you teaching your students?

sarge that is one hell of a leap .
To associate 1984 with 1 sportsman holding his fist up in protest

It's also a good example of why we in the Colony's laugh at you lot

You all ways go to the extreme left when it comes to Freedom but the extreme right is ok hence 60,000 direct deaths from guns . To blind to see the problem .

Because to do away with guns is to infringe on your rights .what about the right not to get shot ?

Sarge, they don't understand. They will never understand. But they are both subjects of the Queen! That makes their brains think different.

If you the NFL or baseball or whatever are going to play the anthem and/or recite the pledge then you should have your employees observe the flag code as part of their job duties. NFL or baseball or whatever are being played in a taxpayer funded venue and they have special breaks, monopoly black-out rules or the like in legislation. Two way street. But it is voluntary, the government has no business forcing people to do it (except at a naturalization ceremony.)

Mr. Kapernick is free to burn a flag if he wants. The NFL might have a rule against that. Society has a rule against causing a panic and a rule against arson. But if he doesn't violate those he can burn as many flags as he wants. He can use the flag to wipe his bum if he wants. The only thing he has to bear is what others think of him for his actions, er words, and if those words are "fighting words."

Sarge, I see your point about wrapping a sporting event in the flag. Unfortunately it seems to be a long tradition of businesses to wrap themselves in the flag for their profit motive. Again, the government has no right to say no to them. Be it President's day sale or 4th of July flag fest advertisements.

You can't mandate good taste.

Oh the government can't tell you what to do but hey get the person to sign a big money contract and you own him .

mmm only evil people promote freedom then come up with a way to take that freedom away

In my view national emblems and anthems should not be used at sporting events unless it is a international competition.

Sports and politics should be separate, except, of course, they never can be.

And let us not forget in a lot of team sports the participants are mercenaries, they are only there for the money and the inflation of their ego's. They have no allegiance to anybody or anything except their beliefs.

NFL rule, for 90 min before to after the game the only logo headphones a player may wear ... can't wear the competition's brand after the NFL signs a deal to promote one brand. But what you do at home is your business.

Oh, if they are never off the clock then that is 24hr employment and that is illegal. Take that to the labor commissioner and they would be due so much overtime pay ... so why hasn't some shyster tried this? Maybe because they are off the clock?

Sorry you know so little about how things are here.

How many little people working for the xyz co get fired for damaging the company's reputation on social media? Say posting racist comments and in some other post saying who they work for? and having the company friended?

Sorry you know so little about the world. Look up the right of association.

I don't know how it is now in the US Military, But when I served from 72 to 80. When at a movie on base you stood while the anthem was played.
On a personnel level, I could never disrespect fellow veterans by not standing and showing respect. But as a veteran, Its the rights that those in the past, Present and in the future, Who have, Are and Will fight for. Give you the right to protest.

My view is that we are the freest nation on Earth,

Good, I salute you. I also request that you check again on
the freedom thingy, Freedom comes in many shapes and flavours.
I could go into the definitions stuff, but I believe we all know
where we stand on such things.

I couldn't have said it better Ian. (Y)

Cheers.

But of course we're different. We're foreigners in a foreign land. The difference is that foreigners here do not have to take an oath of allegiance.

That wally woofer raising his fist only continues to incite racial hatred.

Don't worry Glenn, Yanks are wired up totally different to the rest of the world.

Nice one BBC.

There's always 2 sides of any issue.

Some interesting points in the following report.

Too strong, too black

""It was just playing on my mind, I was like, '[Kaepernick's] worth $60m and he took a knee to risk it all for people like me, for people like the students that I see every single day,'" says Brown."

Ah but will he ever take a risk like yours coach Brown, or is he like many others regardless of colour - be a shyte & take the money & run!
