Now cleaning up and cooling off.

And, it's her brother in law's birthday today, so that means this evening.............

Much good musical discussion....in the what are you watching thread.......
But, I thought I should bring it back to my own thread.

One of the first fine musical moments I had was when I bought my house from my grandparents back in 1980.
Grandpa had passed on, and grandma was finally transferred to a hospice house.
I had soup with my grandmama every day until she passed. Tomato soup...

I learned, after the fact, that their home was up for sale.
I never did understand why I was not contacted before the broker got involved.
But, given my history with the house, put in a very generous offer which was immediately accepted. The realtor did actually apologize to me at one point, but said that she was bound by the papers signed in haste.

But anyway, there was little left in the house, ransacked by the relatives.
What they missed was the old, beat up, Sears console radio. Massive thingy that nobody else wanted....
Being a tube guy, I cherished it. It still fires up. Replaced a critical power supply capacitor years ago and it still works. I sometimes juice it up and listen to shortwave stuff from across the world.

Where I was going with this was....................
In the bottom of that radio were a couple of kinda hidden storage compartments.
And one of the things I found were some old, unplayable discs made on a recording deck that used aluminum discs overlayed with plastic, that one could cut a recording on with a heated stylus.

And the other thing was........
A 78rpm original shellac recording of one of Elvis' first hits.
Yes, he hit the stage when there were still 78s.
I never heard them play it. It was always oom pah pah German music, which I also love.

But I found that disc one day, and played it.
I Forgot to Remember.
It remains one of my favorite Elvis tunes.
And even to this day, makes me remember that I was once a kid. And at times, makes me cry that I am still not.

It was immediate, and a gut reaction to what they were hearing.

That was such a long time ago. I am over her...maybe. YES, I am.

I have two fourteen yo kitties the shall comfort me.

I was just stricken when this was released...............because I spent time in that very studio, and they recreated it.

Held me spellbound.
This is the tribute, not the original.

Will not tell you how, when, or where.

But I witnessed her in a studio doing this live. And it was immense.

He gave me first offer to buy the label.
But I just could not get up the coin to do it. I should have sold my soul to the devil that day to take his offer. I could have done so much with it.
The record label itself was worth a couple of million, and I just did not have the resources to come up with it.

I did try. I wanted it sooooooooooooooooooo bad.

She passed on back in 2012.

MGM paid a mere 75 thousand dollars for the screen rights for the book that became The Wizard of Oz.It has since then grossed billions of dollars and enhanced the lives of you and I forever.
That was no small change for an uknproven starlet at that time.
They took quite a gamble on her.

It is to this day, the most often viewed film classic of all time.
Surpassing even the holllywood favorite, and a Christmas classic, 'Wonderful Life'.

Judy lives on with her wonderful interpretation of a simple Kansan gurl who simply does not have a clue where she has been tossed with the ruby slippers.

I cry every time I watch it when 'over the rainbow' comes on.
Because I know what lies beyond, and why she had to go.
I am approaching that rainbow myself.
