Which is fine and dandy for that type of mozzie. However the USA also has https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aedes_albopictus which also carries Zika and other nasties. Please read your source carefully and try not to be Alarmist Aedes albopictus Australia also has many types of mozzies Aedeomyia catasticta Ad. venustipes Aedes aculeatus Ae. alboannulatus Ae. albopictus But it's only 1 that's causing the problem trials are on going with others and this is a new type of treatment first trial was aprox 18 months ago |

Please read your source carefully and try not to be Alarmist Please do so yourself next time you post about AGW It lives in the USA and transmits. Just because it isn't "the worst" case doesn't mean it can be swept under the rug. |

Gary I'm not American ...AGW ??? It lives in the USA and transmits.???? You American tend to abbreviate to many things so please explain for us dummy's . If your talking about the type of mozzie we also have that species in ozz as well as many others . Your a smart man so please read up on the Wallaby bacteria and you will get a idea just how different it is to a vaccine and why I believe it is vastly superior to them . It will not matter the type of mozzie if we use this tecH correctly But the real threat is from the Drug company's peddalling B/S so they can keep getting research money for something that at best only works for a few years a vaccine . malaria is a good example where antibiotics and vaccines have had little to no effect on stopping the spread and infection of it . It also has become resistant to said treatments . Edit: It's also (Malaria) a cash cow for the Drug Company's and has been for decades in the Tropics |

Gary I'm not AmericanThat's obvious so why do you persist in telling Americans what to do and how great your country and people are? ...AGW ??? AGW is a subject you post passionately about. I'm sure a cut and paste into Google or whatever your favorite search engine is would lead you to the answer. https://www.google.com/search?q=agw&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 It lives in the USA and transmits.???? Wallaby bacteria? That would be an AGW subject. Did you mean Wolbachia? The USA has a few mozzie's that transmit some nasty things too https://www.cdc.gov/westnile/resources/pdfs/mosquitospecies1999-2012.pdf Not all of them are going to be controlled the same way. Not all may be able to be controlled with an infection. So you still need a vaccine and antivirals to control. There is no eliminate as long as the planet has anti vaxxers. |

Unread Message 1809817 - Posted: 17 Aug 2016, 5:05:54 UTC - in response to Message 1809810. Why off cause I meant Wolbachia . I would not know about the disease in your country however I'm talking about only the ones where it is working or shows good promise of working As for the vaccines . A vaccine for Chikungunya is useless for Zika ...NO !! Same thing with antivirals for the same illness However if they stall just a bit then low and behold there suddenly be a whole new market for the antivirals for Zika and Dengue Or am I being paranoid again ? And to not even try and see if Wolbachia works ! well as another says , Fill in the blanks ! Gary I here on the news Blah , Blah Florida and just think wow even the Brazilians get it but the States . Not my country is better just what the hell is wrong with America As Kong stated it's based on science you lot started and you have illnesses we don't so can research what we can't here not stall bicker and argue over who is better but .. Gets on board and help out and own your cures |

NPR. Florida Keys Opposition Stalls Tests Of Genetically Altered Mosquitoes The fight against the Zika virus has a new weapon: the genetically engineered mosquito. It's recently been approved by federal regulators and may soon be available in parts of the U.S. that are confronting the virus, like Puerto Rico and Miami. The Florida Keys do not have a Zika problem at the moment, but on Aug. 5 the Food and Drug Administration approved trial releases of these mosquitoes in the Keys. http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2016/08/17/490313999/opposition-in-florida-puts-tests-of-genetically-altered-mosquitoes-on-hold |

Malaria Might Help Some People Survive Ebola Virologists cleaning up after the Ebola epidemic in West Africa say they've discovered something surprising and promising: People who had malaria when they caught Ebola were more likely to survive the deadly infection. People infected with malaria when they caught Ebola were, on average, 20 percent less likely to die from their Ebola infections, the National Institutes of Health team reported. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ebola-virus-outbreak/malaria-might-help-some-people-survive-ebola-n631966 |

Just a study. Zika can infect adult brain cells, not just fetal cells, study suggests The more researchers learn about the Zika virus, the worse it seems. A growing body of research has established that the virus can cause severe birth defects — most notably microcephaly, a condition characterized by an abnormally small head and often incomplete brain development. The virus also has been linked to cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome in adults, a rare autoimmune disorder that can result in paralysis and even death. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2016/08/18/zika-can-infect-adult-brain-cells-not-just-fetal-cells/ |

Florida health officials had earlier denied reports that Zika was spreading locally in Miami Beach. The local spread — meaning none of those infected had traveled to Zika-affected regions — strongly suggests that mosquitoes in the area have become infected with the virus and are biting people and spreading it. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/zika-virus-outbreak/zika-infects-5-miami-beach-governor-rick-scott-says-n634491 |

NIH official: Don’t expect ‘broad’ Zika outbreak despite Florida cases; disease could hang around The National Institutes of Health’s director of infectious diseases said Sunday he still doesn’t expect widespread transmission of the Zika virus in the continental U.S., though states like Louisiana and Texas should brace themselves for the type of small, mosquito-borne outbreaks that have struck South Florida. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/aug/21/nih-official-dont-expect-broad-zika-outbreak-despi/ |

Zika may damage brain cells in adults, say scientists WASHINGTON, DC, United States (Xinhua) — The Zika virus is known to cause microcephaly and other brain abnormalities in developing foetuses, but new research in mice out last Thursday showed that adult brain cells critical to learning and memory may be vulnerable to infection as well. http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news/Zika-may-damage-brain-cells-in-adults--say-scientists_71223 |

Greece bans blood donations in 12 districts over malaria - reports Twelve districts of Greece have banned blood donations because of malaria, with four cases this year contracted domestically, local media report. In the 61 other cases recorded, the sufferers became infected on the Indian subcontinent and African states, where the disease is endemic. The districts affected stretch from the Peloponnese to Thessaloniki. Domestic cases were first reported four years ago - nearly four decades after the disease was wiped out in Greece. Budget cuts saw municipal spraying schemes to combat mosquito-borne diseases being cut back. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-37148958 |

Not only Zika but Malaria as well! Could it be related to global warming and when mosquitos thrives in a warmer and more humid climate? Silly me. Of course it is. The last case of malaria in Sweden occurred in 1933 and before that it was a rather common disease. |

As globe-threatening yellow fever epidemic explodes in Congo, people ask ‘where is the vaccine?’ KINSHASA, Congo — Here in Kinshasa, they’re using bug spray to repel a pandemic. At first glance, it looks like a bloody ambush on civilians: Dozens in uniform are storming into a bustling marketplace bearing on their shoulders what look like bazookas. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/08/22/as-congos-globe-threatening-yellow-fever-pandemic-explodes-they-ask-where-is-the-vaccine/ |
