Zika found to remain in sperm for record six months The Zika virus has been found in the sperm of an Italian man six months after his first symptoms, twice as long as in previously reported cases. Doctors at the Spallanzani Institute for Infectious Diseases in Rome said it pointed to the possibility that the virus was reproducing itself in the male genital tract. The infection is suspected of leading to thousands of babies being born with underdeveloped brains. Zika is spread by mosquitos. The outbreak was declared a global public health emergency by the World Health Organisation in February. http://www.bbc.com/news/health-37057934 |

Puerto Rico reports 10,690 Zika cases amid ongoing epidemic above problem below is the answer and where it's currently being released Researchers led by Jorge Osorio, a UW-Madison professor of pathobiological sciences, and Scott O'Neill of the the Eliminate Dengue Program (EDP) and Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, are already releasing mosquitoes harboring the Wolbachia bacterium in pilot studies in Colombia, Brazil, Australia, Vietnam and Indonesia The article and link https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/07/160701093945.htm And for the CDC the evidence Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have confirmed that a benign bacterium called Wolbachia pipientis can completely block transmission of Zika virus in Aedes aegypti, the mosquito species responsible for passing the virus to humans. |

Ohio and Michigan report H3N2v ‘swine flu’ infections linked to pigs at fairs Four human infections with influenza viruses that normally circulate in swine (swine influenza) were reported by CDC this week. When swine influenza viruses are detected in people they are called “variant†viruses and are designated with a letter v at the end of the virus subtype. The four human infections were caused by H3N2v viruses in Ohio (2) and Michigan (2). All four patients reported attending fairs where they had exposure to pigs during the week preceding illness onset. Pigs at the fairs have reportedly tested positive for swine influenza A (H3N2) infection. The Ohio patients are not related other than both of them reporting having attended the same fair in Ohio. Similarly the Michigan cases both attended the same fair in Michigan, but are otherwise unrelated to each other. CDC is working with state public health officials to support their human health responses and has recommendations for the public on what steps they can take to help protect against H3N2v and other swine influenza viruses. http://outbreaknewstoday.com/ohio-and-michigan-report-h3n2v-swine-flu-infections-linked-to-pigs-at-fairs-64375/ Thanks Darth Beaver. |

Flooding might increase mosquitoes and Zika risk in Louisiana The massive flooding across southeastern Louisiana over the weekend could bring an increased risk for the Zika virus after the waters recede, an expert in tropical medicine said Sunday. Strong floodwaters often wash away mosquito eggs, which would be good news. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2016/08/14/flooding-might-increase-zika-risk-louisiana/88724914/ |

New Outbreak Threatens Nigeria's Efforts to Eradicate Polio In 2012 Nigeria accounted for more than half of all polio cases worldwide. Within three years – and after a rigorous immunization campaign involving more than 200 000 volunteers – the country was removed from the list of polio-endemic countries. Less than a year later two new cases of polio have been reported. This is a setback for a country that aimed to achieve polio free status by 2017. Professor Oyewale Tomori explains why Nigeria finds itself in this position. http://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2016-08-15/new-outbreak-threatens-nigerias-efforts-to-eradicate-polio |

Flooding might increase mosquitoes and Zika risk in Louisiana First thing ppl need to do is light up your Mozzie coils as they will keep the little bighters away . Second thing is Don't light them up inside your home there to be used outside a door or window and the range is approx. 3 meters . 3rd thing for at least 2 weeks after the water goes USE Mozzie Repellent when going outside as the Mozzie population will explode for at least 2 weeks after the rains and floods have gone . And lastly Demand the release of the Walbacia infected Mozzies and forget about the dam vacceine as it won't help anybody that already has it and if released nobody will be infected in the first place . Don't listen to the Drug Company Lobby . Remember it also works for Dengue , drug company's will lose money if nobody else gets infected It may also work for Malaria . It will cost Drug companies big Dollars if there is a cure for Malaria , Dengue and the newer Zika . Much misinformation being said to slow down release in your country so as to make a market for treatments and line the pockets of rich fat people with no humanity or soles . Get active demand the release of the modified Mozzie now . |

The article and link https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/07/160701093945.htm Which is fine and dandy for that type of mozzie. However the USA also has https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aedes_albopictus which also carries Zika and other nasties. Source: http://www.cdc.gov/zika/vector/range.html |

Texas Reports 1st U.S. Case of Zika From Travel to Another State TUESDAY, Aug. 16, 2016 (HealthDay News) -- In what appears to be the first case of Zika infection traveling across state lines, Texas health officials report that a resident of that state who visited Miami recently has tested positive for the virus. The unidentified traveler had returned from the area of Miami where local transmission of the mosquito-borne virus has been reported, and sought testing after becoming ill, state health officials said in a statement Monday. http://health.usnews.com/health-care/articles/2016-08-16/texas-reports-1st-us-case-of-zika-from-travel-to-another-state |

Viruses 'more dangerous in the morning' Viruses are more dangerous when they infect their victims in the morning, a University of Cambridge study suggests. The findings, published in PNAS, showed viruses were 10 times more successful if the infection started in the morning. And the animal studies found that a disrupted body clock - caused by shift-work or jet lag - was always vulnerable to infection. The researchers say the findings could lead to new ways of stopping pandemics. Viruses - unlike bacteria or parasites - are completely dependent on hijacking the machinery inside cells in order to replicate. But those cells change dramatically as part of a 24-hour pattern known as the body clock. http://www.bbc.com/news/health-36782326 |
