Dear Seti people, Is there a way to setup BOINC in order to have only a specific number of task running at any point in time??? I would like to run only 4 tasks and when one is over a new one would start. THanks Francois |

What is your CPU? How many cores? If it can, do you run it with HyperThreading ON or OFF? |

Dear Seti people, There are a few different ways. First you can use the BOINC GUI and change the allowed CPUs that BOINC can use. So for your 32 CPU system 4/32=12.5% Another option is to make a cc_config.xml and set <ncpus> to 4. If you wanted to limit a specific project you could use an app_config.xml and set the value for <project_max_concurrent> to 4. ok, thanks guys, did not catch that 1 task = 1 proc. In short, one task will never be able to be distributed on multiple-proc. Francois |

ok, thanks guys, did not catch that 1 task = 1 proc. Yes SETI@home does not currently have multithreaded applications. I believe it has been stated that the processing that SETI@home performs would not greatly benefit from being multithreaded. However there are some BOINC projects that do offer multithreaded applications.
