I could use a basic primer-for-dummies on how to read the graphic:

Has anyone ever posted such? I can't find it.

IMO the screen saver shows nothing but eye candy and as an added bonus it takes CPU cycles to run which IMO could be better used to crunch data.

The only really useful bit of the screen is the information towards the top right-hand corner, where you can see the "where and when" for the origin of the data that is being processed.

I would only mention that the ONLY reason I got into Seti@home and later other BOINC projects was because I seen this as a screensaver on another computer.

So, it may not serve a purpose, but for me it made all the difference.

Just sayin....

What we need is a pretty and low resource cost s@h 'screensaver' that is still pretty and enticing...

I compromised for some users by turning down the screen refresh rate...

(And times move on from the very old American "Star Trek" look... Long overdue for something new?...)

Rough plan on my end (longer term) is to reinstate graphics, but in a low cost and purposeful way. Basically maintain the PR value, but add some actual usefulness as far as monitoring and control go. Not sure where it'll end up, though graphics/game engines and gear seem to be pushing toward pulling you away from the monitor and into VR/AR, therefore managing the farm while doing weird gestures on the train doesn't seem implausible.

Same for me back in 2000. Saw many computers at Nokia Cambridge with them running. On getting home researched Seti. 15 years later still crunching :-)
